Overview
While it's basically carryover from 2007, Cadillac amps up the DTS lineup for 2008 with the introduction of the limited-edition DTS Platinum, featuring handcrafted leather interior, performance Northstar V-8 engine and other design touches. First introduced on the Escalade SUV, the Platinum Series is part of Cadillac's limited collection of luxury models. The 2008 DTS also receives some safety enhancements and chassis refinements.

Model Lineup
The 2008 Cadillac DTS models include DTS Platinum and five DTS packages: DTS V8, Luxury I, Luxury II, Luxury III and Performance. DTS V8 includes all-speed traction control; 4-wheel anti-lock disc brakes (ABS); speed-sensitive Magnasteer steering; Stabilitrak electronic stability control system with brake assist; dual-zone climate control; CD/MP3 player; and power front seating. Luxury I adds front-flexible 6-passenger seating; memory setting for two drivers for seat and outside mirrors; front heated and cooled seats; heated steering wheel and washer fluid; and ultrasonic front and rear parking assist. Luxury II includes Luxury I items plus front bucket seats; tri-zone automatic climate control with individual settings for driver, front passenger and back seats; and programmable 3-channel universal home remote. Luxury III adds the Intellibeam headlamp system; dark burled walnut wood trim; massaging lumbar front seats; power folding outside rearview mirrors; power rear sunshade; power tilt and telescoping steering column; and a Bose Centerpoint surround sound system with in-dash, 6-disc CD changer. The Performance series includes all Luxury III items plus a 4.6-liter NorthStar V-8 NHP engine; automatic transmission with performance setting; magnetic ride control; 9-spoke, 18-inch chrome aluminum wheels; and side blind-zone alert system.

The limited-edition DTS Platinum features a handcrafted leather interior; 4.6-liter Northstar V-8 NHP performance engine; 18-inch chrome wheels; bright chrome grille and door inserts; sunroof; DVD navigation system; and a Platinum badge. Available features include magnetic ride control, heated windshield washer fluid and the new lane-departure warning and side blind-zone alert safety systems.

DTS options include adaptive cruise control; various wheel combinations; lane-departure warning and side blind-zone alert systems; front-flexible seating; Tuscany or Tehama leather; navigation system; and sunroof.

Powertrain
Two 4.6-liter Northstar V-8 engines add power to the 2008 DTS. The standard 4.6-liter Northstar V-8 engine puts out 275 hp at 6000 rpm and 295 lb.-ft. of torque at 4400 rpm. The performance version 4.6-liter Northstar V-8 NHP engine achieves 292 hp at 6300 rpm and 288 lb.-ft. of torque at 4500 rpm. EPA fuel economy estimates for the 275-hp V-8 engine are 15 mpg city/23 mpg highway, while the 292-hp V-8 engine is estimated at 15 mpg city/22 mpg highway. Power is transferred in the front-wheel-drive system through a standard 4-speed electronically controlled automatic overdrive transaxle with an electronically controlled torque converter clutch. The performance engine utilizes a 4-speed transmission with performance algorithm shifting. Standard on every 2008 Cadillac is a 100,000-mile/5-year transferable powertrain limited warranty with no deductible, 24/7 roadside assistance, and courtesy transportation.

Safety
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Cadillac DTS receives a 5-star rating for the driver in frontal impact crash tests, and a 4-star rating for the passengers in frontal, and driver and passengers in side-impact crash tests. In NHTSA rollover testing, the DTS also receives a 4-star rating. The 2008 Cadillac DTS has standard driver and front passenger front and side air bags; head curtain side air bags for outboard first-row and outboard second-row passengers; child door locks; OnStar; electronic stability control with brake assist; 4-wheel ABS; tire-pressure-monitoring system; and traction control. Other DTS safety features include available lane-departure warning and side blind-zone alert systems to help the driver avoid crashes and enhance vision in hard-to-see areas.

The new lane-departure warning and side blind-zone alert safety-enhancing systems join features such as magnetic ride control, Onstar Turn-by-Turn Navigation system with fully integrated GPS; three months free XM satellite radio; and an in-dash, 6-disc CD changer audio system with "plug and play" auxiliary audio jack, MP3 player, Radio Data System (RDS), and 8 speakers.
