Following a complete redesign of the CTS sedan for the 2014 model year (with few changes to the coupe and wagon models), Cadillac continues to tweak and improve its midsize CTS lineup for 2015. CTS buyers have the choice of several powertrains, rear-wheel-drive (RWD) or all-wheel-drive (AWD) capability (except for the Vsport, which is RWD only), and various trim levels. Competitors include the Audi A6, BMW 4 Series and 5 Series, Lexus GS, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and E-Class, Lincoln MKS, and the Infiniti M.

Models and Features
The 2015 Cadillac CTS sedan is available in three model series: 2.0L Turbo; 3.6L; and 3.6L Twin Turbo. Trim levels include Standard (2.0L Turbo only), Luxury, Performance, Premium, Vsport (3.6L Twin Turbo only), and Vsport Premium. Cadillac does offer a high-performance CTS-V variant for 2015, but in Coupe format only (The 2015 Cadillac CTS-V Coupe is covered in a separate article).

The Standard trim level of the 2015 CTS features Cadillac's proprietary CUE infotainment system with 8-in. screen and premium audio; push-button start; 8-way power front seats; active grille shutters; and rear park-assist sensors. The CTS Luxury adds leather upholstery, heated and cooled front seats, heated power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, and split-folding rear seat. The Luxury trim level also adds various safety features, including forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, rearview camera, rear cross-traffic alert, side blind-zone alert, and adaptive headlights.

The Performance trim level adds heated rear seats, tri-zone automatic climate control, head-up display, navigation system, sunroof, front park-assist sensors, and illuminated doorsills and handles. The Premium trim level features power front seats with 20-way adjustment, 12.3-in. customizable gauge cluster, intelligent cruise control, aluminum foot pedals, advanced security system, and enhanced safety features including automatic braking. The CTS Vsport is similar to the Performance trim level, and the Vsport Premium is like the Premium trim level, but both add power and performance features.

Options and Packages
The improved optional Automatic Parking Assist now can park the CTS in perpendicular spaces, as well as in parallel spaces. It uses ultrasonic sensors to locate a suitable space and bring the vehicle into it, with the driver only required to choose the gear and apply the accelerator and brake.

Many of the items included as standard equipment on the CTS' higher trim levels are optional on the lower trims. Other options include upgraded wheels and summer tires, carbon-fiber and wood trim kits, and performance brakes.

Under the Hood
The base engine in the 2015 CTS sedan is a turbocharged, direct-injection 2.0-liter 4-cylinder that produces 272 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque and works with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Offered as an upgrade is a 3.6-liter V-6 with an 8-speed automatic transmission that delivers 321 horsepower and 275 lb.-ft. of torque. The twin-turbocharged version of that engine, standard on the CTS Vsport, delivers 420 horsepower and 430 lb.-ft. of torque.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2015 Cadillac CTS vary according to engine size and drive configuration. According to the EPA, the base sedan with RWD returns 20 mpg in the city, 30 mpg on the highway, and 24 mpg combined; 19/28/22 mpg with AWD. The Vsport is the least fuel-efficient at 16/24/18 mpg.

Safety Ratings and Technology
Depending on trim level, the 2015 Cadillac CTS features up to 8 standard air bags, HID headlights, rear park-assist sensors, and OnStar telematics with emergency response services. Additional safety features are available.

In crash tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the 2015 Cadillac CTS received an overall rating of 5 (out of 5) stars. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) rates the 2015 Cadillac CTS "Good" (its highest rating) in moderate-overlap frontal-offset and side-impact tests, and "Superior" (with optional equipment) in terms of front crash prevention.
