Overview

What's New for 2014:

  • Phantom Gray Metallic, Mocha Steel Metallic, Red Obsession Tintcoat, Majestic Plum Metallic exterior paint colors
  • Sport Blue Interior package (coupe only)

Introduction
An all-new CTS Sedan debuted for the 2014 model year, but the high-performance CTS-V variants--Sedan, Coupe, and Wagon--were carried over unchanged, save for a couple of minor tweaks. These rear-wheel-drive (RWD) models are powered by a muscular V-8 engine and can be fitted with a driver's choice of transmissions. A single trim level is offered. Competitors for the 2014 Cadillac CTS-V include the Audi S6, BMW M5, Jaguar XFR-S, Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG, and the Porsche Panamera Turbo.

Models and Features
The well-equipped CTS-V rolls off the assembly line with standard features including Bose surround-sound audio, navigation system with an 8-in. screen and voice command, dual-zone climate control, remote start, heated power front seats with 8-way adjustment, power tilt-and-telescoping leather-wrapped steering wheel, memory settings for two drivers, and 19-in. alloy wheels. Headlight washers and leather/suede upholstery are also part of the standard package.

Options and Packages
Among the only changes made for 2014 are the addition of the CTS-V Coupe's Sport Blue Interior package, which consists of wood trim, suede accents, front Recaro sport bucket seats, and Twilight Blue upholstery. Other available upgrades for this hot-rod Cadillac are heated and cooled front seats, power moonroof (double-pane on the CTS-V Wagon), and aluminum foot pedals.

Under the Hood
Though their body styles differ, each of the 2014 Cadillac V-Series variants utilizes the same supercharged, 6.2-liter V-8 engine that produces 556 horsepower and 551 lb.-ft. of torque. A 6-speed manual gearbox is available, as is a 6-speed automatic transmission featuring steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters and a performance mode. Complementing the powertrain are a limited-slip rear differential, magnetic ride control suspension, and Brembo brake components.

Fuel Economy
Essentially a luxury-clad muscle car, the 2014 Cadillac CTS-V delivers the kind of efficiency one might expect from a machine boasting more than 550 horsepower. According to the EPA, models equipped with the 6-speed manual transmission should average 14 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway, figures that slide to 12 and 18 mpg, respectively, when the automatic transmission is selected. But, with so much power on tap, your mileage may--and quite possibly will--vary.

Safety Ratings and Technology
As this overview is written, neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has rated the crashworthiness of the 2014 Cadillac CTS-V. However, the 2013 CTS Sedan and Wagon, on which the CTS-Vs are based, were tested. Each received an overall rating of 5 (out of 5) stars from the NHTSA, while the Sedan earned "Good" ratings--the highest possible--from the IIHS; the 2013 CTS Sedan also received a "Top Safety Pick" designation from the Institute.

To keep people inside and around the CTS-Vs as safe as possible, Cadillac has equipped the cars with 6 air bags, OnStar telematics with emergency response services, a rearview camera, bright adaptive HID headlights, rear park-assist sensors, rain-sensing wipers, and side blind-zone alert (Coupe only).
