Exterior Features
The 2012 Cadillac CTS is a midsize vehicle available as a Coupe, Sport Sedan, or Sport Wagon. The Sedan's exterior is characterized primarily by its front grille. The Sedan and Sport Wagon trim levels are 3.0 base, 3.0 Luxury, 3.6 Performance, and 3.6 Premium. The Coupe comes in base, Performance, and Premium trims. All three body styles offer a high-performance CTS-V variant, which features 19-inch wheels, summer performance tires, high-performance brakes, magnetically controlled adaptive suspension, adaptive Xenon headlights, and many other performance features.

Interior Features
The base Cadillac CTS model features dual-zone automatic climate control, leatherette upholstery, Bluetooth connectivity, 8-speaker Bose sound system, and automatic headlights. Features are gradually added moving up the trim levels, topping out with the CTS-V, which includes leather and faux suede upholstery, premium sound system, and many other enhancements.

Optional Features
Many option packages are available and are included in the upper trims, including a sunroof, automatic wipers, and various safety features. With the CTS-V, heated and ventilated Recaro sport seats are offered, plus faux suede covering for the steering wheel and gear shift.

Under the Hood
The Sedan and Sport Wagon offer the choice of a 3.0-liter or 3.6-liter V-6 engine, the latter rated at 318 horsepower. The CTS-V features a 6.2-liter, supercharged V-8 engine rated at 556 horsepower and 551 lb.-ft. of torque. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard on all CTS models, with a 6-speed automatic optional. Rear-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive available, but only with an automatic transmission.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy figures for the 2012 Cadillac CTS range from 18/27/22 mpg (city/highway/combined) for the 3.0-liter to 12/18/14 mpg for the CTS-V with automatic transmission.

Standard safety features on the 2012 Cadillac CTS include anti-lock disc brakes, stability control, traction control, front-seat side air bags, side curtain air bags, active front head restraints, and OnStar emergency communications. Other safety features are optional.

In government tests conduced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the CTS received 5 (out of 5) stars overall, as well as for frontal-offset and side-impact crash protection. In tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the CTS received "Good" ratings--the Institute's highest--for frontal-offset and side-impact crash protection.
