What's New for 2015:

  • All-new coupe body style debuts sportier roofline
  • Sedan gets new, more powerful turbocharged engine
  • Sedan gets restyled front fascia
  • Cadillac logo is redesigned
  • Four new colors debut

The 2015 Cadillac ATS is a compact sport luxury car, available with rear-wheel or all-wheel drive (RWD or AWD). This year, Cadillac offers a coupe version for the first time: essentially the same vehicle, but with two doors, a sportier (and lower) roofline, and a little less room in the back seat compared with the sedan. Key competitors to the ATS include the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, Infiniti Q50, Lexus IS, and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

Models and Features
Depending on the engine under its hood, the 2015 ATS is sold as the ATS 2.5L, ATS 2.0L Turbo, and the ATS 3.6L. The ATS coupe or sedan is offered in a single level of specification that can be upgraded with a choice of "collections," which in effect serve as trim levels. These collections are designated Luxury, Performance, and Premium.

The base model features 17-in. alloy wheels, automatic headlights, dual-zone automatic climate control, premium leatherette upholstery, heated mirrors, keyless ignition and entry, and a 7-speaker Bose sound system. The Luxury collection adds a broader selection of exterior colors, leather upholstery, 8-way power-adjustable front seats with memory for the driver's settings, split-folding rear seat, Keyless Access passive entry, universal garage door opener, front and rear park-assist sensors, and a reversing camera. The Luxury version also has a Cadillac User Experience (CUE) system with upgraded Bluetooth and satellite radio, remote engine start, auto-dimming glass for the rearview and driver's side mirrors, upgraded grille trim, and polished aluminum wheels.

The Performance collection is offered for the ATS 2.0L Turbo and 3.6L, and it adds a premium surround-sound audio system, HID headlights, performance seats, aluminum pedals, illuminated door handles, and a Driver Awareness package of safety features. The Premium collection adds a navigation system, color configurable head-up display, Magnetic Ride Control performance suspension, limited-slip rear differential, upgraded engine cooling, 18-in. forged aluminum wheels with summer performance tires, and other upgrades.

Options and Packages
Each version of the 2015 ATS can be optioned with certain equipment from the next most expensive collection of features.

Optional safety features are primarily grouped into Driver Awareness and Driver Assist option packages. The Driver Awareness package contains rain-sensing wipers, rear-seat side-impact air bags, lane-departure warning system, forward-collision alert, and a Safety Alert Seat. The Driver Assist package (available only with Performance and Premium collections) includes these items plus full-speed-range adaptive cruise control, Automatic Collision Preparation with Intelligent Brake Assist, Front and Rear Automatic Braking, side blind-zone alert, and rear cross-traffic alert.

Under the Hood
The three engines available for the 2015 Cadillac ATS include a base 2.5-liter 4-cylinder that makes 202 horsepower and 190 lb.-ft. of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and RWD (available only with standard equipment or the Luxury collection); a turbocharged, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder that makes 272 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque (with a 6-speed manual transmission and AWD offered as separate options); and a 3.6-liter V-6 engine rated at 321 horsepower and 274 lb.-ft. of torque. The V-6 is available only with a 6-speed automatic transmission and RWD or AWD.

Fuel Economy
The most fuel-efficient ATS model is the 2.5L, which gets 21 mpg city, 33 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined, according to the EPA. The 2.0 Turbo returns 21/30/24 mpg with RWD and 20/28/23 mpg with AWD. The 3.6L gets 18/28/22 mpg with RWD and 18/26/21 mpg with AWD. All three engines are designed to operate on regular unleaded fuel.

Safety Ratings and Technology
Standard safety features on the 2015 Cadillac ATS include anti-lock disc brakes, traction control, stability control, active front head restraints, front-seat side and knee air bags and full-length side curtain air bags. If the air bags deploy, the standard OnStar telematics system provides automatic crash notification and on-demand roadside assistance. The FamilyLink service allows members of a family to remotely keep track of where the ATS is at any given time, useful if there's a teen or inexperienced driver in the household.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the 2015 ATS received an overall crash-test rating of 5 stars, the highest rating possible. Notably, the car gets a 5-star rating in each of the testing parameters, including for rollover resistance. As this overview is written, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has not performed crash tests on the Cadillac ATS.
