Exterior Features
The 2013 Verano, which shares its vehicle platform with the Chevrolet Cruze, features signature Buick design cues, such as a waterfall grille, portholes on the hood, and translucent blue rings around the projector beam headlights. Machined-face, 18-inch aluminum wheels are standard. Verano Turbo models add unique wheels, subtle trunk spoiler, and dual exhaust outlets.

Interior Features
The 2013 Verano is equipped with Buick's signature QuietTuning sound-deadening cabin treatment, as well as standard leatherette and cloth upholstery, soft-touch interior materials, and a Buick IntelliLink color touch-screen radio with Bluetooth and USB connection, voice control, and the ability to stream Internet radio from a paired smartphone. Also standard are dual-zone automatic climate control and ambient cabin lighting.

Optional Features
Convenience, Premium, and Turbo trims provide upgrades above the standard Verano. Convenience trim adds a power driver's seat, Bose premium audio system, upgraded safety features, and heated outside mirrors. Premium trim includes passive entry with push-button start, leather seats, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel. The Turbo model adds unique sport pedals, but is otherwise equipped like the Premium trim.

Optional on the Verano are a navigation system, power sunroof, and RemoteLink mobile applications.

Under the Hood

Standard in the 2013 Buick Verano is a direct-injection, 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine. It delivers 180 horsepower, 171 lb.-ft. of torque, and provides power to the front wheels through a 6-speed automatic transmission with manual Driver Shift Control.

The Verano Turbo is equipped with the same turbocharged, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that is installed in the Buick Regal, tuned to produce 250 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque. The engine is paired with a standard 6-speed automatic transmission, but is available with a 6-speed manual gearbox transmission.

Fuel Economy
When this overview was written, the EPA had only rated the 2013 Buick Verano model with the 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine. Ratings for the Verano Turbo will be published at a later date:
  • Verano 2.4L with automatic transmission: 21/32/25 mpg (city/highway/combined)
  • Verano Turbo with manual or automatic transmission: To be determined

Safety
Every 2013 Verano includes 10 standard air bags, traction and stability control, 4-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes with panic brake assist and a smart pedal brake override system, reversing camera system, and 6 months of free OnStar services that include automatic crash response. All models, except the base version of the Verano, include rear park-assist sensors, blind-spot monitoring system, and rear cross-traffic alert.

The 2013 Buick Verano had not been crash tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) when this overview was written. However, the structurally identical 2012 Verano was rated a "Top Safety Pick" by the IIHS.
