Introduction
The LaCrosse is Buick's flagship model: a midsize premium sedan known for its interior roominess and smooth ride (and rather small trunk). It's regarded as an aspirational model, as close to a luxury model as possible while remaining mainstream. The LaCrosse's main competitors include the Chevrolet Impala, Acura TL, Chrysler 300, Hyundai Genesis, Lexus ES, Lincoln MKZ, and Volkswagen CC. The 2015 model features few changes, following an extensive interior redesign for 2014, but the infotainment and communications systems have been upgraded, and Buick has added the Experience Buick option package.

Models and Features
The 2015 Buick Lacrosse is available with front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD), in 10 exterior colors and four trim levels: the LaCrosse 1SV Group; LaCrosse Group; LaCrosse Leather Group; and LaCrosse Premium I Group.

The base LaCrosse 1SV Group includes an OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot; 3.6-liter V-6 engine coupled with a 6-speed automatic transmission; dual stainless steel exhaust; ebony cloth with leatherette seating; remote start; universal home remote; Buick IntelliLink radio with satellite radio; rearview camera; and 17-in. machined-faced silver painted wheels.

The LaCrosse Group switches over to a "mild hybrid" 2.4-liter engine and a single exhaust system, and adds a cargo net.

The Leather Group adds leather-appointed heated front seats with 8-way power; heated, power-adjustable exterior mirrors with LED indicators; E-Z Key passive entry system; rear park-assist sensors; and memory settings for the driver's seat and mirrors.

The LaCrosse Premium I Group reverts to the 3.6-liter V-6 conventional engine and adds ventilated driver and front passenger seats; heated steering wheel; power rear sunshade; Bose premium sound system; 120-volt power outlet; and 18-in. sterling silver painted alloy wheels (FWD vehicles only). Trunk space comes to 13.3 cu. ft.; with the hybrid engine, 10.8 cu. ft.

New exterior colors for 2015 include Deep Garnet Metallic, Dark Chocolate Metallic (at additional cost), and White Frost Tricoat (at additional cost), replacing White Diamond Tricoat, Mocha Bronze Metallic, and Crystal Red Tintcoat. In the cabin, Choccachino with Ebony accents replaces Choccachino with brown accents as an option.

Options and Packages
Many of the standard upgrades on the upper trim levels of the 2015 LaCrosse are available as options on the lower versions of the car. Other options include a panoramic moonroof; engine block heater; 18-in., 19-in., and 20-in. wheel treatments; adaptive cruise control; and several packages. The Driver Confidence Package #1 features side blind-zone alert with lane-change alert; rear cross-traffic alert; lane-departure warning; forward-collision alert; following-distance indicator; head-up display; front halogen fog lights; and xenon high-intensity discharge articulating headlights. The Driver Confidence Package #2 adds adaptive cruise control, front automatic braking, and a safety alert seat. The Ultra Luxury package adds Sangria semi-aniline perforated leather seating; real wood on the instrument panel, door inserts and console; leather-wrapped center console and door armrests; heated leather-wrapped steering wheel; and a MicroSuede headliner, pillars and vanity mirrors. This package requires the moonroof and the larger engine.

Under the Hood
The 2015 LaCrosse is equipped with either the eAssist mild hybrid powertrain or a 3.6-liter conventional V-6. The former choice pairs a 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder gasoline engine with an electric assist motor and a small Lithium-ion battery pack. Combined, these components generate 182 horsepower at 6,700 rpm and 172 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,900 rpm. This powertrain gives the LaCrosse a Partial Zero Emission Vehicle (PZEV) rating in certain regions of the country. A 6-speed automatic transmission drives the Buick's front wheels. The V-6 engine generates 304 horsepower at 6,800 rpm and 264 lb.-ft. of torque at 5,300 rpm. A 6-speed automatic transmission is standard. With this engine, AWD is available on the upper trim levels. The AWD system features an electronic limited-slip differential and distributes torque based on vehicle speed, throttle position, and wheel slip.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2015 Buick LaCrosse are:
  • 2.4-liter engine with FWD: 25/36/29 mpg (city/highway/combined)
  • V-6 engine with FWD: 18/28/21 mpg
  • V-6 engine with AWD: 17/26/20 mpg

Safety Ratings and Technology
The Driver Confidence Package #1 includes forward-collision alert, lane-departure warning, lane-change alert, side blind-zone alert, rear cross-traffic alert, bi-xenon articulating headlights, fog lights, and a head-up display. The Driver Confidence Package #2 adds collision-preparation with collision-mitigation braking, full-speed-range adaptive cruise control, and a safety alert seat.

The new LaCrosse is also available with a next-generation IntelliLink infotainment system with natural-voice recognition, 8-in. color gesture-recognition touch screen, Pandora Internet radio, and a new standard sound system. A premium surround-sound audio system is optional, as is a reconfigurable gauge cluster display.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has given the 2015 Buick LaCross 5 stars (out of a possible 5) for overall safety, including 5 stars for front crash and side crash protection, and 4 stars for rollover protection. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has rated the 2015 Buick LaCrosse "Good" (its highest rating) in all safety categories.
