The BMW X6 is a 4-seat, high-performance crossover vehicle that combines a coupe look with a high ride height. It features a distinctive sloping roof and an aggressive overall profile. For 2011, BMW has introduced a new turbocharged engine that boosts fuel efficiency, and a new 8-speed automatic transmission. The X6 is available in two trim levels, plus an ultra-high-performance version (X6 M) and a hybrid model (ActiveHybrid X6).

The 2011 BMW X6 xDrive35i, the base model, features 19-inch alloy wheels, adaptive Xenon headlights, leather upholstery, parking assist sensors, dual-zone climate control, sunroof, iDrive electronics, power front seats, and a 10-speaker sound system. Voice-activated navigation, Bluetooth, an emergency communications system, a sporty steering wheel, and upgraded seats are added to the more powerful xDrive 50i trim. A 16-speaker surround-sound system is optional, as are 20-inch wheels, enhanced suspension, perforated leather upholstery, enhanced climate control, and special dark colors for interior and exterior. On the X6 M, 20-inch performance tires and sport-tuned suspension are standard.

The standard engine in the 2011 BMW X6 xDrive 35i is a turbocharged, 300-horsepower, 3.0-liter, inline 6-cylinder engine that produces 300 lb.-ft. of torque; it delivers 17 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway, according to the EPA. The X6 xDrive50i employs a twin-turbo, 400-horsepower, 4.4-liter V-8 engine that produces 450 lb.-ft. of torque and delivers 13 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway. The ActiveHybrid X6 employs that engine, supplemented by electric power, and delivers 17 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway. The X6 M features a 555-horsepower, 4.4-liter V-8 engine that produces 500 lb.-ft. of torque, and delivers 12 mpg in the city and 17 mpg on the highway.

Standard safety features on the 2011 BMW X6 include anti-lock disc brakes, stability control, traction control, hill-descent control, front side air bags, side curtain air bags, and active front head restraints.

The 2011 BMW X6 had a starting MSRP of around $57,000. The X6 M and the ActiveHybrid X6 both started at approximately $89,000.
