  • Auto start/stop technology added to both X3 models
  • Standard Driving Dynamics technology
  • Optional lane-departure and collision warning systems

Exterior Features
The 2013 BMW X3 is available as the xDrive28i and the xDrive35i. Standard features include 18-inch aluminum wheels, power tailgate, automatic headlights, and rain-sensing wipers. The X3 xDrive35i adds xenon adaptive headlights with LED corona-ring running lights, LED adaptive brake lights, panoramic sunroof, and chrome exhaust outlets.

Interior Features
Every 2013 BMW X3 is equipped with leatherette upholstery, automatic climate control, and a premium sound system. The xDrive35i adds real wood interior trim.

Optional Features
Most BMW X3 options are grouped into packages. Highlights include leather, heated front and rear seats, heated steering wheel, rear side window sunshades, and keyless entry with push-button ignition. A navigation system is also available, as well as front and rear parking sensors, reversing camera with aerial display, BMW Assist telematics with 4 years of Safety Plan service, and BMW Apps with smartphone integration technology.

Buyers can upgrade the X3's performance with the Dynamic Handling package (steering and suspension improvements), the Sport Activity package (sport seats, sport steering wheel, bigger wheels with performance tires, and paddle shifters for xDrive35i models), and the M Sport package (special wheels, sport steering wheel, unique trim).

Under the Hood
The BMW X3 xDrive28i has a direct-injected, turbocharged, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine making 240 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 260 lb.-ft. of torque between 1,250 and 4,800 rpm. The X3 xDrive 35i has a direct-injected, turbocharged, 3.0-liter, inline 6-cylinder engine making 300 horsepower at 5,800 rpm and 300 lb.-ft. of torque from 1,300 to 5,000 rpm.

Both X3 models are equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission with auto start/stop technology, which shuts the engine off when idling at an intersection or in traffic, and automatically restarts the engine when it is time to go. Standard Driving Dynamics technology offers four driving modes that tailor throttle, steering and suspension calibration to ECO PRO, Comfort, Sport and Sport+ settings.

BMW's xDrive AWD system is standard. It transfers power primarily to the rear wheels, automatically sending more motive force to the front wheels when the rear wheels slip.

EPA fuel-economy figures for the 2013 BMW X3 are:
  • X3 xDrive28i: 21/28/24 mpg (city/highway/combined)
