The 2013 BMW 3 Series is offered as a 4-door sedan or a new 5-door station wagon body style that will arrive later this year. Sedans are available in 328i, 335i and ActiveHybrid 3 model series in standard, Luxury, Modern, Sport, and M Sport trim lines.
Standard equipment includes automatic headlights, fog lights, rain-sensing wipers, auto-dimming power-adjustable folding exterior mirrors, 17-inch aluminum wheels, and run-flat tires.Interior Features
The BMW 328i is equipped with 8-way power front seats with driver memory settings, leatherette upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, push-button starting, auto-dimming rearview mirror, one-touch operation for all power windows, ambient cabin lighting, tilt/telescoping steering wheel, universal garage door opener, iDrive display screen, Bluetooth, CD/MP3 player, auxiliary audio input jack, USB/iPod connection, and HD Radio.Optional Features
The 335i adds a more powerful turbocharged 6-cylinder engine, 18-inch wheels, xenon adaptive headlights with corona-ring running lights and LED accent lights, power sunroof, and an anti-theft alarm system. In addition to these features, the ActiveHybrid 3 Sedan includes a gas/electric hybrid powertrain and a larger 8.8-inch iDrive display screen.
After a customer has settled on a model, BMW offers options as part of a trim line, as part of a package, or individually.
The Sport trim line includes a sport suspension, high-gloss black exterior trim, unique interior trim, double-spoke 18-inch aluminum wheels, sport steering wheel (with paddle shifters in conjunction with the automatic transmission), 10-way power front sport seats, black leatherette upholstery with red accents, and an Anthracite headliner.
New for 2013, the M Sport trim line includes M Sport staggered-width star-spoke 18-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in performance tires, M Sport suspension, M Sport steering wheel (with paddle shifters for models with the automatic transmission), M Aerodynamic body kit, M Sport front seats, M Sport trim and accents, and unique exterior paint colors.
The Luxury trim line starts with the standard model and adds chrome exterior trim, multi-spoke 18-inch aluminum wheels, sport steering wheel, and Dakota leather with unique stitching. This trim line requires the purchase of the Premium package.
The Modern trim line also builds from the standard model, adding matte chrome exterior trim, turbine-style 18-inch aluminum wheels, sport steering wheel, and Dakota leather with Dark Oyster highlights. This trim line also requires the purchase of the Premium package.
The Premium package is the pathway to Dakota leather seats, 4-way power lumbar support for the front seats, Comfort Access keyless entry, satellite radio and, for the 328i, a power sunroof. BMW also offers a Lighting package (adaptive xenon headlights with corona ring driving lights and LED accent lights); Cold Weather package (heated front and rear seats, heated steering wheel, headlight washers); Dynamic Handling package (adaptive M Sport suspension, variable sport steering); and a Technology package (navigation, BMW Assist telematics, enhanced Bluetooth, BMW Apps smartphone integration, color head-up display).
Optional safety features are bundled into Driver Assistance packages. The Driver Assistance package includes parking sensors, reversing camera, surround-view camera system, and a blind-spot monitoring system. The Driver Assistance Plus package includes those items plus a lane-departure warning system and a speed limit information display.
Additional options include parking-assist technology, automatic high-beam headlights, 600-watt premium surround-sound system with 16 speakers, and active cruise control (N/A ActiveHybrid, N/A M Sport Line model).Under the Hood
The 2013 BMW 328i is powered by a turbocharged, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine generating 240 horsepower between 5,000 and 6,000 rpm and 255 lb.-ft. of torque between 1,250 and 4,800 rpm. Automatic stop/start technology and an 8-speed automatic transmission are standard. A 6-speed manual transmission is optional, as well as BMW's xDrive all-wheel-drive system.
The 2013 BMW 335i is equipped with a turbocharged, 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine making 300 horsepower at 5,800 rpm and 300 lb.-ft. of torque between 1,200 rpm and 5,000 rpm. An 8-speed automatic transmission is standard, a 6-speed manual gearbox is optional, and the 335i can be equipped with xDrive all-wheel drive.
The 2013 BMW ActiveHybrid 3 Sedan pairs the 335i's engine with an electric motor, Lithium-ion battery pack, and an 8-speed automatic transmission that is unique to this model. Combined, this powertrain makes 335 horsepower between 5,800 rpm and 6,000 rpm, and 330 lb.-ft. of torque between 1,200 rpm and 5,000 rpm.
Driving Dynamics Control with Eco Pro, Comfort and Sport settings is standard on all 2013 3 Series models, and a free BMW Ultimate Service plan provides free scheduled maintenance during the first 4 years or 50,000 miles of ownership.Fuel Economy

Every 2013 BMW 3 Series includes 8 air bags, traction and stability control system, hill-start assist system, and 4-wheel ventilated disc brakes with adaptive brake lights, Dynamic Brake Control, Cornering Brake Control, Brake Drying, Brake Stand-by, and Brake Fade Compensation.
Optional safety features include adaptive xenon headlights, automatic high-beam headlights, park-assist sensors, reversing camera, surround-view camera system, blind-spot monitoring system, lane-departure warning system, and a speed limit information display. BMW Assist telematics with Automatic Collision Notification service is also available, and can speed rescuers to the car's location after an air bag deployment.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gives the 2013 BMW 328i and 335i Sedan an overall 5-star rating (out of 5 stars). As this overview is written, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has only announced crash-test results for its new small overlap frontal-impact test, in which the 3 Series received a "Marginal" rating.
