Exterior Features
The 2013 Audi S6 is based on the Audi A6 sedan. Standard equipment includes rain-sensing wipers, heated power exterior mirrors with LED turn signal indicators, heated washer nozzles, automatic adaptive Xenon Plus headlights, and LED taillights. Aluminum exterior trim sets the S6 apart from the standard A6, along with quad exhaust outlets and 19-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in summer performance tires.

Interior Features
The 2013 Audi S6 comes standard with a long list of features. Highlights include 12-way power front sport seats, premium diamond-stitched Valcona leather, heated front seats, Natural Fine Grain Ash wood interior trim, LED ambient cabin lighting, and a 3-spoke power tilt/telescoping sport steering wheel with shift paddles. A 4-zone automatic climate control system is standard, along with Bluetooth connectivity, 630-watt Bose premium surround-sound audio system, HD Radio, satellite radio, and an iPod connection.

The S6 also includes Audi Advanced Key keyless entry and push-button ignition, power sunroof, reversing camera, and front and rear park-assist sensors. Audi's MMI Navigation Plus system is standard, too, equipped with a handwriting recognition pad, voice-recognition technology, and Audi Connect service with Google Earth navigation images, Google Local search, and mobile Wi-Fi capability.

Optional Features
Audi offers four different option packages for the 2013 S6 model, starting with the Cold Weather package, which contains a heated steering wheel and heated rear seats. A Comfort Seating package is also available, including 22-way power sport comfort front seats that are heated, ventilated, and equipped with both massage and memory functions.

Additionally, there is a Driver Assistance package that adds power-folding exterior mirrors, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring system, and Audi Pre-Sense Plus technology. The Innovation package includes these items plus a head-up display, Active Lane Assist, Parking System Plus with a top-view and corner-view camera system, and Night Vision Assistant with Pedestrian Detection technology.

Audi S6 buyers can also upgrade with a choice of interior trim inlays, black cloth headliner, rear-seat side-impact air bags, power rear window sunshade, manual rear side window sunshades, and a 1,300-watt Bang & Olufsen audio system. Exterior options include metallic paint, full LED headlights, LED cornering lights, and 20-inch aluminum wheels with P255/35ZR20 performance tires.

Under the Hood
The 2013 Audi S6 is equipped with a twin-turbocharged, direct-injection, 4.0-liter V-8 engine generating 420 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 406 lb.-ft. of torque starting at 1,400 rpm. It is equipped with cylinder-on-demand technology designed to increase fuel economy when cruising on the highway.

A 7-speed S-tronic dual-clutch automatic transmission feeds the power to all four wheels through standard Quattro all-wheel drive, with 60% of motive force flowing to the rear wheels under normal driving conditions. According to Audi, the S6 accelerates to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds.

Additional hardware improvements include a standard sport-tuned adaptive air suspension, sport braking system, and a rear sport differential. Audi Drive Select technology allows the driver to calibrate steering, suspension and drivetrain response to one of four settings: Comfort, Auto, Dynamic, or Individual. The Individual setting lets the driver select settings from the Comfort, Auto and Dynamic menus for a custom-tailored setup.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 Audi S6 are 17/27/20 mpg (city/highway/combined).

Safety
The 2013 Audi S6 comes standard with 8 air bags, traction and stability control system, and 4-wheel ventilated disc anti-lock brakes with brake assist. The S6 is also equipped with a reversing camera, front and rear park-assist sensors, and adaptive Xenon Plus headlights that help to illuminate around dark corners.

In addition to side-impact air bags for the rear-seat occupants, Audi offers numerous safety options for the S6. The Driver Assistance package adds an active cruise control system with stop-and-go capability, blind-spot monitoring system, and Audi PreSense Plus. Audi PreSense Plus identifies when a collision may occur, and automatically applies the brakes to try to slow or stop the car.

The Innovation package includes these features, and adds a head-up display, camera system offering top-down and corner viewing angles, Active Lane Assist system, and a Night Vision Assistant with Pedestrian Detection system. The latter feature can detect people and animals up to 1,000 feet ahead of the car, and uses a yellow visual warning to warn the driver when the S6 is within 300 feet of the person or animal. If the person or animal steps into the S6's path, the system issues a red alert visual warning.

As this overview is written, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has not performed crash tests on the Audi A6 or Audi S6. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) calls the 2013 Audi A6 a "Top Safety Pick" but does not state whether this rating also applies to the S6 model or not.
