Overview

What's New for 2014:

  • Revised alloy wheel packages
  • Standard HID headlights

Introduction
The 2014 Audi Q7 is an all-wheel-drive (AWD), 7-passenger crossover SUV model available in three trim levels and equipped with either a gasoline or diesel engine. With the rear rows folded, the Q7 boasts up to 72.5 cu.-ft. of usable cargo space. Competitors include the BMW X5, Infiniti QX60, Land Rover LR4, Lexus GX 460, and the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class.

Models and Features
Serving as the lineup's base model, the Q7 Premium features dual-zone climate control, tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, auto-dimming rearview mirror, aluminum interior trim, leather upholstery, Bluetooth connectivity, and an 11-speaker sound system with satellite radio and iPod compatibility. Audi also fits this model with 18-in. alloy wheels, power liftgate, heated power front seats with 12-way adjustment, automatic HID headlights with LED accents, sliding and reclining 40/20/40 split-folding second-row seat, and rear park-assist sensors.

One step up from the Premium is the Q7 Premium Plus, host to a power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, panoramic moonroof, memory settings for the driver, infotainment system with navigation and Bose audio components, push-button start, rearview camera, and front park-assist sensors.

Rounding out the Q7 trim levels is the Prestige. This is where you'll find a standard 4-zone climate control system, ventilated front seats, upgraded exterior trim, and a blind-spot monitoring system.

Options and Packages
Audi has created a number of options for the 2014 Q7, highlights of which include 19- or 20-in. alloy wheels, Bang & Olufsen sound system, electronic damping suspension, and a Cold Weather package that bundles together a heated steering wheel and heated second-row seat.

Under the Hood
Audi offers the 2014 Q7 with two engines, including the base supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 that produces 280 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque. A 3.0-liter V-6 turbocharged diesel is also available, availing drivers to 240 horsepower and 406 lb.-ft. of torque. An 8-speed automatic transmission is standard on all versions of the Q7. According to Audi, this large crossover model can tow up to 6,600 lbs.

Fuel Economy
In addition to its bounty of torque, the Q7's diesel engine also rewards buyers with a level of efficiency not common to full-size crossovers: 19 mpg in the city, 28 mpg on the highway, and 22 mpg combined. The supercharged gas-powered V-6 also delivers ample muscle, but its EPA ratings come in at only 16 mpg, 22 mpg, and 18 mpg, respectively.

Safety Ratings and Technology
In crash tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the 2014 Audi Q7 earned a "Good" rating--the Institute's highest--for moderate overlap front-impact protection. As this overview is written, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has not rated the 2014 Q7. Standard safety items include 6 air bags, 4-wheel anti-lock vented disc brakes with brake assist and electronic brake-force distribution, and hill-hold control. Rear-side air bags are optional, as is a Technology package comprised of intelligent cruise control and a 360-degree exterior camera system.
