Overview

The Audi A6 received a facelift for the 2009 model year. For 2010, the big news is the arrival of a direct-injected, 3.2-liter V-6 engine. Compared to last year's 3.2-liter V-6, the new powerplant makes 10 more horsepower and is slightly more fuel efficient. All models with Quattro all-wheel drive receive a supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine as standard equipment. In addition, Audi has changed the Sports package content.

The 2010 Audi A6 is mostly a carryover from 2009-a year in which Audi dbuted a new engine lineup for this model. The A6 is available as a luxury four-door sedan or a five-door wagon-known as the Avant. The A6 is available in four trim levels, with three engine types and numerous luxury options. New for 2010 are LED headlights, and the A6 now features the same fascias used for the Audi A5.

The trim levels are designated according to their engine types: 3.2 FrontTrak Sedan, 3.0 Quattro Sedan, 3.0 Quattro Avant, and 4.2 Quattro Sedan. The FrontTrak Sedan has Audi's Multitronic continuously variable transmission (CVT), while Quattro trims feature a six-speed automatic transmission with manual mode. The A6 sedan has a 16-cu.-ft. trunk, and the Avant offers 59 cu.ft. of cargo space with the rear seats folded.

Standard features on all trim levels include 17-inch alloy wheels, power sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, satellite radio, and Bluetooth connectivity. Various options packages add larger wheels, upgraded lights, Advanced Key passive entry/start, and a voice-activated navigation system.

The A6 3.0T has a 3.0-liter engine that provides 300 hp and 310 lb.-ft. of torque. The A6 3.2 has a 3.1-liter V6 engine rated at 255 hp and 243 lb.-ft., while the A6 4.2 boasts a 4.2-liter V8 engine (350 hp, 325 lb.-ft.). All three engines are available in the sedan, while the Avant offers only the 3.0T.

The 3.0T fuel efficiency ratings are 18 mpg in the city, 27 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined. The 3.2 offers 18 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined. The 4.2 engine provides fuel economy of 16 mpg city, 23 mpg highway, and 18 mpg combined. The Audi A6 comes with antilock disc brakes, stability control, front-seat side airbags, and full-length side curtain airbags. In Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) tests, the A6 received a "Good" rating for frontal-offset and side-impact protection.

On introduction, the 2009 Audi A6 started at $45,200.
