Overview

What's New for 2014:

  • Acura makes no changes to the TSX in its final year of production

Introduction
Prior to the arrival of the ILX, the TSX served as the entry-level model in Acura's lineup. It is based on a European version of the Honda Accord and is sold as a sedan or a station wagon, the latter a genuine rarity in the marketplace. Acura plans to discontinue the TSX after the 2014 model year.

Models and Features
The 2014 Acura TSX Sedan is available in standard and Special Edition trim levels, the former offered with a choice between a 4-cylinder and a V-6 engine, while the TSX Sport Wagon is available only in standard trim with a 4-cylinder engine.

Upgrading to the TSX Special Edition adds a sporty body kit, red interior accents, silver paddle shifters, and aluminum pedals. This version also has a unique finish for the standard 17-in. aluminum wheels, and buyers can choose between a manual gearbox and an automatic transmission. All other TSX models are equipped with a standard automatic.

Choose the TSX with the V-6 engine upgrade and the car also features larger 18-in. aluminum wheels as well as the optional Technology package.

Options and Packages
Both the TSX Sedan and the TSX Sport Wagon are offered with an optional Technology package that includes a navigation system with voice-recognition technology and real-time traffic and weather reports, a premium audio system, solar-sensing and GPS-linked climate control system, and a reversing camera. For Sport Wagon models, the Technology package also contains a remote-linked power tailgate.

Under the Hood
A 201-horsepower, 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine is standard equipment for the 2014 Acura TSX. It is paired with a 5-speed automatic transmission that drives the front wheels and which includes paddle shifters and grade logic control. In the TSX Special Edition, a 6-speed manual gearbox is available at no extra charge.

The 2014 TSX Sedan can be optioned with a 280-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 engine. It is an expensive upgrade at $5,540, and includes the same 5-speed automatic transmission as the standard TSX.

Fuel Economy
According to the EPA, the 2014 TSX Sedan delivers 22 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway with its standard 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine and 5-speed automatic transmission. Select the 6-speed manual gearbox and those numbers are 21 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. The optional V-6 engine is not as fuel-efficient. The EPA rates it to return 19 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.

The 2014 TSX Sport Wagon's EPA ratings are 22 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.

Safety Ratings and Technology
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has not performed crash tests on the 2014 TSX, but does give the car a relatively rare 5-star (out of 5 stars) rollover-resistance rating. In crash tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the TSX earns the top rating of "Good" in all assessments except for the small overlap frontal-impact test, for which the car receives a "Marginal" rating.

In terms of safety-related technology, the 2014 Acura TSX is available with an optional reversing camera.
