Overview

What's New for 2013:

  • There are no changes for the 2013 model

Exterior Features
The 2013 Acura TL is offered in standard and SH-AWD levels of specification (the latter is an acronym for Super Handling All-Wheel Drive). For 2012, Acura revised the TL's styling and the refreshed appearance carries into 2013 without modification. The standard TL is equipped with high-intensity discharge headlights and 17-inch aluminum wheels, while the SH-AWD trim is equipped with 18-inch alloy wheels and larger tires.

Interior Features
Every 2013 Acura TL is equipped with Bluetooth hands-free calling and music streaming, leather upholstery, power heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, power sunroof, and a stereo that includes satellite radio, USB/iPod connection, and an auxiliary audio input jack.

Optional Features
The TL can be upgraded with a Technology package that includes a navigation system, real-time traffic and weather reports, premium surround-sound audio system, reversing camera, GPS-linked climate control system, and keyless entry with push-button start. Premium perforated leather seats are also included in this package.

The Advance package adds these features plus ventilated front seats, blind-spot monitoring system, and larger wheels and tires.

Under the Hood
The 2013 Acura TL is equipped with a 280-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 engine that drives the front wheels through a 6-speed Sequential SportShift automatic transmission with paddle shifters.

The TL SH-AWD is more powerful, due to a 3.7-liter V-6 engine that generates 305 horsepower. This engine comes standard with the SportShift automatic, but is also available with a 6-speed manual transmission. The Super Handling All-Wheel-Drive system features torque vectoring for the rear wheels, and can deliver as much as 80% of total powertrain output to a single rear wheel as conditions warrant, Acura says.

In addition to the more powerful V-6 engine and bigger wheel/tire combination, the TL SH-AWD also includes a performance suspension, bigger brakes, and sport-tuned steering.

Fuel Economy
Fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 Acura TL were not final when this article was written.

Safety
The Acura TL is equipped with 6 air bags, 4-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist, and a stability and traction control system. A reversing camera and a blind-spot monitoring system are available as options.

In government crash tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the 2013 Acura TL received an overall crash-test rating of 4 (out of 5) stars. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) had not officially rated the 2013 TL when this article was written.
