Introduction
The 2014 Acura RDX is a compact luxury crossover SUV designed to compete with models such as the Audi Q5, BMW X3, Cadillac SRX, Infiniti EX37, and Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class.

Models and Features
Acura sells the 2014 RDX in a single, well-equipped level of specification. Highlights include leather seats with perforated inserts, a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat with memory settings, heated front seats, and a dual-zone automatic climate control system. The 2014 RDX is also equipped with Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, SMS text-messaging capability, USB port, iPod connection, multi-view reversing camera, and a keyless passive entry system with push-button start. A set of 18-inch aluminum wheels is also standard on every RDX, along with a power sunroof, heated exterior mirrors, and a universal garage door opener.

Options and Packages
All-wheel drive (AWD) is an option for this model, as well as a Technology package. The Technology package includes xenon high-intensity discharge headlights, power tailgate, and a GPS-linked, solar-sensing automatic climate control system. Additionally, this option package contains a voice-recognition system, navigation system, AcuraLink real-time traffic and weather reports, premium Acura/ELS audio system, Pandora Internet radio, and a hard-drive music storage system with Song by Voice track retrieval.

In addition to these items, Acura dealers can install a variety of extra-cost accessories.

Under the Hood
Every 2014 Acura RDX is equipped with a 3.5-liter V-6 engine equipped with Variable Cylinder Management (VCM), which allows the engine to operate on fewer cylinders under low-load driving conditions to help conserve fuel. The V-6 makes 273 horsepower at 6,200 rpm and 251 lb.-ft. of torque at 5,000 rpm, and is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission featuring Grade Logic Control and a Sequential SportShift manual mode with paddle shifters on the steering wheel. The V-6 powers the RDX's front wheels. An AWD system is optional.

Fuel Economy
As rated by the EPA, the 2014 Acura RDX is expected to achieve the following fuel-economy estimates:
  • RDX FWD: 20/28/23 mpg (city/highway/combined)
  • RDX AWD: 19/27/22 mpg

Safety Ratings and Technology
Aside from a multi-view reversing camera, the 2014 RDX offers a basic package of safety equipment. As this article is written, crash-test ratings for the 2014 Acura RDX are not available.

Bluetooth connectivity, SMS text-messaging capability, a USB port, iPod connection, and keyless passive entry with push-button ignition are standard on every 2014 RDX. The optional Technology package includes a navigation system and a unique solar-sensing climate control system that can regulate cabin temperature based on vehicle and sun position. The Technology package also includes a premium audio system with a Pandora Internet radio interface, 15 GB of hard-disc storage for music, and Song by Voice music retrieval.
