Exterior Features
The Acura MDX is a 3-row, midsize crossover SUV based on parent company Honda's front-wheel-drive unibody platform, but combines an all-wheel-drive powertrain with a car-like ride. Exterior features include 18-inch wheels, automatic Xenon headlights, fog lights, and a power liftgate.
Interior Features
Standard interior features on the 2012 Acura MDX include leather upholstery, sunroof, privacy glass, 3-zone automatic climate control, a full menu of power accessories, Bluetooth connectivity, and an 8-speaker sound system. The MDX offers 83.5 cubic feet of cargo space with all rear seats folded down.
Optional Features
Although the MDX comes in a single trim, several option packages are available. The Technology package includes premium leather upholstery; a state-of-the-art sun-sensing and GPS-linked climate control system; navigation system; upgraded sound system; voice controls; and rearview camera. The Advance package incorporates the Technology package plus 19-inch wheels, adaptive cruise control, adaptive suspension, and several additional safety features. An Entertainment package includes a rear-seat entertainment system and heated rear seats.
Under the Hood
The standard power plant in the 2012 Acura MDX is a 3.7-liter, 300-horsepower V-6 engine mated with a 6-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, delivering 270 lb.-ft. of torque. With proper equipment, the MDX can tow up to 5,000 pounds.
Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy figures for the 2012 Acura MDX are 16/21/18 mpg (city/highway/combined).
Safety
Standard safety features on the 2012 Acura MDX include anti-lock brakes, stability and traction control with added trailer stability, front-seat side air bags, knee air bags, and full-length side curtain air bags. Optional is Acura's proprietary Collision Mitigation Braking System, which incorporates warning systems, hard braking, and responsive seat belts.
To date, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has not conducted tests on the 2012 Acura MDX. In tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the MDX received a "Good" rating--the Institute's highest--for frontal-offset and side-impact crash protection.
