New for 2014: Ford Cars

By: Jeff Youngs, 9/16/2013

2014 Ford Cars Overview

This is not a year of drastic change for Ford cars, as the brand's lineup carries over with the same sedans, wagons, coupes, and hatchbacks that were available for the 2013 model year. That said, several key updates have been made.

Perhaps most noteworthy is the compact Fiesta, which gets a sporty ST variant for 2014, as well as updated styling, new options, available turbocharged 3-cylinder engine, and graphics to dress up the exterior. Also worthy of mention is the 2014 Ford Focus Electric, which has a base price that's $4,000 less than the 2013 model.

As for the other Ford cars, the 2014 C-Max has undergone subtle tweaks to improve fuel efficiency, the Mustang adds a couple of paint colors and revised gauges before its all-new replacement debuts in 2015, and the Taurus benefits from a new lane-departure warning system. Finally, the 2014 Fusion features a host of new equipment options, new 1.5-liter 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine, and a new base Hybrid S version.

2014 Ford C-Max
Ford's front-wheel-drive (FWD) C-Max wagon, available in Hybrid and Energi plug-in hybrid versions, arrived as an all-new model in 2013. After consumers complained about advertised fuel-economy ratings that proved to be unrealistic in real-world driving situations, Ford lowered the estimates printed on window stickers. For 2014, the company has made a few tweaks to the C-Max in an effort to improve fuel economy. These include improvements to the car's aerodynamics, revisions to the gearing in the transmission, and the use of low-friction engine oil.

What's New:
  • Revised transmission gearing
  • Improved aerodynamics
  • Reduced-friction engine oil

2014 Ford Fiesta
The compact FWD Ford Fiesta has undergone a mild refresh for 2014, as evidenced by its updated styling and the introduction of key options, such as a customizable MyKey feature and a Sony sound system. A new turbocharged, 1.0-liter, 3-cylinder EcoBoost engine also joins the lineup, as does a sporty ST version equipped with a 197-horsepower, 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine. Four trim levels are available, and buyers have the choice of 4-door sedan or 5-door hatchback body styles.

What's New:
  • ST variant debuts
  • Available 197-horsepower, 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine (ST)
  • Available 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine
  • Improved fuel economy
  • Revised interior and exterior styling
  • Optional MyFord Touch system
  • Optional MyKey feature
  • Available Sony premium audio system
  • Optional exterior graphics
  • Paint colors

2014 Ford Focus
It's not every year that a car's base price is actually lowered--especially by a whopping $4,000--but that's exactly what's happened with the 2014 Ford Focus Electric. Shoppers considering this model can thank increased competition for the price cut.

While their prices haven't been slashed, gasoline-powered 2014 Focus models do hit dealer lots with a few updates, such as new racing stripes and alloy wheels for the enthusiast-oriented ST. A Sport Appearance package is also now available for SE variants.

What's New:
  • Sport Appearance package (SE)
  • Optional racing stripes (ST)
  • Optional gray alloy wheels (ST)
  • Focus Electric's base price lowered

2014 Ford Fusion
Several changes have been made to the Ford Fusion sedan for 2014, including the introduction of optional rear inflatable seat belts, optional performance tires, new 1.5-liter, 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine, and new available premium features for the top-of-the-line Titanium trim level.

Ford also offers the Fusion in Hybrid and Energi plug-in hybrid styles. A new base Hybrid S trim level joins the lineup for 2014. According to the EPA, the 2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid can average up to 47 mpg (the same rating applies for city, highway, and combined mpg), while the Fusion Energi reportedly has an electric-only range of 21 miles.

What's New:
  • Dark Side Metallic and Sunset Metallic paint colors
  • Interior Appearance package
  • Available inflatable rear seat belts
  • New interior colors
  • New 1.5-liter EcoBoost engine
  • Available performance tires
  • Hybrid S base version
  • Optional cooled front seats (Titanium)
  • Optional heated steering wheel (Titanium)
  • Available Brick Red leather interior (Titanium)

2014 Ford Mustang
The original Pony car celebrates its 49th birthday in 2014, and marks the occasion with updated option packages, a new gauge cluster, and a couple of new colors. Enthusiasts will be disappointed to learn that the Mustang Boss 302 has been discontinued.

When the Mustang hits the half-century mark in 2015, it will do so as a completely redesigned model. Expect that version to feature an independent rear suspension and new engines, likely starting with a turbocharged 4-cylinder.

What's New:
  • Updated gauge cluster
  • Oxford White and Ruby Red Metallic paint colors
  • Boss 302 discontinued
  • Revised option packages

2014 Ford Taurus
Since it was updated in 2013, the full-size Ford Taurus sedan returns for 2014 with only minor changes. In addition to a choice of two new paint colors, the 2014 Taurus is now available with a lane-departure warning system that utilizes the car's electric power steering. The Taurus lineup continues to include SE, SEL, Limited, and SHO trim levels.

What's New:
  • Dark Side Metallic and Sunset Metallic paint colors
  • Optional lane-departure warning system
