New for 2013: Smart

10/25/2012
2013 Smart Model Overview

Smart is a Daimler AG vehicle brand, as are Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner. Launched as a channel through which Daimler could sell mini-compact city cars developed specifically for space-challenged cities, Smart offers a single model called the Fortwo, an apt name because the 8.8-foot-long vehicle offers just two seats. For 2013, in addition to new special-edition models, the Smart Fortwo is offered as an electric vehicle for the first time.

2013 Smart Fortwo
The Smart Fortwo, a 2-seat urban commuter car sold in coupe or convertible body styles, received revised styling and an updated interior halfway through the 2012 calendar year. For 2013, the Fortwo continues in Pure Coupe, Passion Coupe, and Passion Cabriolet trim levels, which are all equipped with a 70-horsepower, 1.0-liter 3-cylinder engine and an automated manual transmission.

What's New:
  • SharpRed Special Edition model with black and red two-tone paint, black wheels, black leather seats with red contrast stitching, and simulated leather covering the dashboard and door panels
  • IceShine Special Edition model with Crystal White paint, white wheels, LED running lights, black leather heated seats with white contrast stitching and white fabric backrests, and power steering
  • Optional Brabus Sport package with a sporty body kit, sport suspension, sport exhaust system, sport pedals, black leather seats, and unique aluminum wheels

2013 Smart Fortwo Electric Drive
The new Smart Fortwo Electric Drive, which will be in dealer showrooms in the first part of 2013, is offered in coupe or convertible body styles. Smart claims that the electric drivetrain fits into the same space vacated by the Fortwo's gasoline engine and fuel tank, and the company says the Fortwo Electric Drive is the least expensive electric vehicle for sale in the United States.

  • Recharges in 6 hours using a 240-volt outlet
