New for 2013: SRT

9/17/2012
2013 SRT Model Overview

SRT stands for Street and Racing Technology, a division of Chrysler Group dedicated to building performance-oriented versions of selected Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep models. With the arrival of the redesigned 2013 Viper under the SRT brand, rather than under the Dodge brand as it was previously sold, SRT establishes itself as a separate channel in the Chrysler family, similar to how the company's full-size pickups are grouped under the Ram brand. This 2013 SRT buyer's guide details information for all models that now include an "SRT" designation in their names.

2013 Chrysler 300 SRT8
The 2013 Chrysler 300 SRT8 is a performance luxury sedan equipped with a 6.4-liter V-8 engine generating 470 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque, and a 5-speed automatic transmission driving the car's rear wheels. Chrysler says the 300 SRT8 accelerates to 60 mph in under 5 seconds, and comes standard with Fuel Saver Technology that allows the engine to operate on half of its 8 cylinders to achieve 23 mpg on the highway. For 2013, the 300 SRT8 gains an extra driving mode for the adaptive damping suspension, new launch control system, and additional refinements.

What's New:
  • 3-mode adaptive damping suspension
  • Launch control system
  • Uconnect navigation system adds 3-D graphics
  • Five exterior paint colors have been added

2013 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392
Based on the 5-passenger Challenger coupe, the Challenger SRT8 392 receives numerous performance enhancements including a 470-horsepower, 6.4-liter V-8 engine that develops an equal amount of torque. A "pistol-grip" shifter is included with the standard 6-speed manual gearbox. A 5-speed automatic transmission is also available. Dodge says the Challenger SRT8 392 accelerates to 60 mph in under 5 seconds and gets up to 23 mpg on the highway, due in part to standard Fuel Saver Technology that allows the V-8 engine to operate on just 4 cylinders under certain driving conditions.

What's New:
  • Upgraded Uconnect navigation system
  • Upgraded 3-mode adaptive damping suspension
  • Launch control system
  • Five exterior paint color choices have been added

2013 Dodge Charger SRT8
The Dodge Charger SRT8 is a performance-oriented version of the Charger family sedan, equipped with a 6.4-liter V-8 engine that delivers 470 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque to the rear wheels through a 5-speed automatic transmission. Two models are available: the SRT8 Super Bee and the standard SRT8, with the Super Bee serving as the entry-level version. Dodge expects the Charger SRT8 models to accelerate to 60 mph in less than 5 seconds, and standard Fuel Saver Technology, which puts the car into a 4-cylinder driving mode on the highway, provides a manufacturer-estimated 23 mpg.

What's New:
  • Standard launch control
  • Expanded 3-mode adaptive damping suspension
  • Uconnect 84N navigation system adds 3-D graphics
  • Charger SRT8 Super Bee returns with white, black or red paint
  • Six exterior paint colors have been added

2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8
Take one 470-horsepower, 6.4-liter V-8 engine, install it in a Jeep Grand Cherokee, add an adaptive damping suspension, larger wheels and tires, fortified brakes, Selec-Track technology, and a modified version of Quadra-Trac active all-wheel drive, and you've got the 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8. Jeep says this performance-tuned Grand Cherokee will accelerate to 60 mph in less than 5 seconds, and that standard Fuel Saver Technology helps to maximize highway mileage.

What's New:
  • Alpine and Vapor special-edition versions of Grand Cherokee SRT8 with Black Vapor Chrome wheels and gloss black exterior trim

2013 SRT Viper
For 2013, the Viper returns, though not under the Dodge brand umbrella. Rather, this 2-seat sports car is sold as an SRT model, a halo vehicle for Chrysler's Street and Racing Technology division. Equipped with more sophisticated design, engineering, and equipment than previous models, the new 2013 SRT Viper is a modern performance car.
