Exterior Features
The 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG is based on the new, redesigned SL roadster. Distinguishing features exclusive to the SL63 AMG include a unique grille and LED running lights, restyled side vent grilles, body kit, rear spoiler, rear diffuser panel, twin chrome exhaust outlets, and 19-inch AMG light-alloy wheels. The power-retractable hardtop roof comes in one of three variations: painted; panoramic glass; or glass equipped with variable tinting called Magic Sky Control.

Interior Features
In addition to a list of standard features shared with the SL550 on which it is based, the SL63 AMG adds heated sport multi-contour seats, an AMG performance steering wheel, AMG gauges with Racetimer performance tracking technology, and carbon fiber interior trim panels.

Optional Features
Mercedes-Benz offers a number of performance and luxury options for the new SL63 AMG. For example, a premium Bang & Olufsen audio system, Keyless Go unlocking and ignition, an active parking assist system, ventilated front seats, and the unique AirScarf system are all available. AirScarf emits warm air from a vent located at neck level, allowing the SL63 AMG's owner to comfortably drive with the top down on chilly days.

Buyers in pursuit of maximum velocity will want the AMG Performance package, which includes more horsepower and torque, higher top speed, locking rear differential, red-painted brake calipers, upgraded Nappa leather, and a steering wheel wrapped in a synthetic suede material called Dinamica. The SL63 AMG can also be outfitted with an AMG performance suspension, AMG ceramic high-performance compound brakes, and staggered-width AMG forged aluminum wheels.

Under the Hood
The 2013 Mercedes SL63 AMG's twin-turbocharged, 5.5-liter V-8 engine makes 537 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 590 lb.-ft. of torque between 2,000 and 4,500 rpm. If you need more power, consider the optional AMG Performance package to enjoy 564 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 664 lb.-ft. of torque from 2,250 to 3,750 rpm. Mercedes says the car will accelerate to 62 mph in 4.2 seconds with the optional AMG Performance package.

An AMG SpeedShift MCT automated manual gearbox is standard. It features seven forward speeds, automatic double-declutching, and four driving modes including Controlled Efficiency, Sport, Sport+ and Manual. In Controlled Efficiency mode, an active stop/start system shuts off the engine when the car is at idle (such as at a stop light) to conserve fuel.

Additional hardware for the SL63 AMG includes a sport suspension with Comfort and Sport settings, sport steering calibration, performance-compound braking system, and sport exhaust tuning.

The SL63 AMG's three-stage stability and traction control system offers a Sport Handling setting that loosens the reigns of the stability system. Additional standard safety features include Attention Assist drowsy driver detection technology and Pre-Safe collision preparedness for the cabin. An optional Driver Assistance package adds Pre-Safe Brake, Distronic Plus, Active Lane Keeping Assist, and Active Blind Spot Assist features.
