Introduction
BMW's Nurburgring-tempering M5 sedan has been redesigned for 2013, offering a new turbocharged engine that is more powerful and efficient than its predecessor, new dual-clutch transmission with manual and automatic modes, and updated styling.

Exterior Features
BMW offers the 2013 M5 as a single trim level equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels, adaptive auto-leveling HID headlights with retracting washers, heated auto-dimming power-adjustable and power-folding outside mirrors, rear spoiler, and a power tilt/slide moonroof.

Interior Features
In addition to being a respected sports car, the 2013 BMW M5 is a well-appointed luxury sedan. Among the model's many high-end features are heated power front seats with memory and 18-way adjustment, leather upholstery and interior accents, Alcantara headliner, dual-zone climate control, power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel with integrated audio controls, and intelligent cruise control. The redesigned M5 also boasts push-button start, Bluetooth connectivity, auto-dimming rearview mirror, iDrive, navigation system with 10.2-inch screen and real-time traffic information, and a 12-speaker 500-watt surround-sound system equipped with HD Radio service, auxiliary input jack and USB port, and a 6-disc CD changer.

Optional Features
Two factory options are available for the 2013 BMW M5, one of which is a Driver Assistance package comprised of blind-spot monitoring and lane-departure warning systems, camera-based side- and bird's eye-view displayed on the center dash screen, and a speed limit feature that reads and transmits related information from road signs.

M5 buyers can also consider an Executive package that fits the BMW sedan with 4-zone climate control, a heated steering wheel, power trunk lid, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, head-up display, satellite radio service, BMW smartphone apps compatibility, and a power rear sunshade.

Individual options include 20-inch alloy wheels, ceramic brakes, full leather interior, night vision with pedestrian detection, rear entertainment system, and an 1,100-watt surround-sound upgrade.

Under the Hood
BMW equips the 2013 M5 sedan with a direct-injection, 4.4-liter, twin-turbocharged V-8 engine that delivers 560 horsepower and 500 lb.-ft. of torque, all directed to the rear wheels via a standard 7-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission with steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters or an optional 6-speed manual gearbox.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 BMW M5 are:

  • M5 with 6-speed manual transmission: 15/22/17 mpg (city/highway/combined)
  • M5 with 7-speed automatic transmission: 14/20/16 mpg

Safety
The 2013 BMW M5's standard safety components include 8 air bags, traction control, front active head restraints, adaptive brake lights, front and rear park-assist sensors, rearview camera, rain-sensing wipers, and 4-wheel anti-lock ventilated disc brakes featuring brake drying, brake stand-by, dynamic brake control, and brake-fade compensation systems.

Technology
The 2013 M5's aluminum performance-tuned suspension--with normal, sport, and sport plus settings--is enhanced by a dynamic mode that allows drivers to stretch the car's handling boundaries, electronic limited-slip differential, and an M Drive feature that adjusts the throttle, steering, and suspension.
