Introduction
The Jaguar XK is the maker's sportiest and most powerful model. It's a rear-wheel-drive vehicle, available as a coupe or convertible, with 20-inch wheels standard on all but the base model. That base, known as the XK Touring, is new for 2013, and offers most of the XK's traditional standard features at a lower price. Other trim levels include the XK (formerly the base trim), XKR, and the XKR-S, which is available only as a special order. Later in the year, Jaguar will introduce a limited-edition XKR-S GT, of which only 25 will be available in the United States. The Jaguar XK's main competitors include the Mercedes-Benz SL550, Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet, Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG, and Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet.

Exterior Features
Twelve exterior colors are available on the 2013 Jaguar XK, depending on trim level. Nineteen-inch alloy wheels are standard on the XK Touring, and 20-inch alloy wheels are standard on the other trim levels. All XKs feature rear fog lights as standard equipment. The XKR adds distinctive styling that includes hood louvers with Supercharged script, "R" branded fascia, and adaptive front lighting with dynamic pivoting headlights and integrated cornering lights. The XKR-S has forged 20-inch Vulcan alloy wheels with matte dark gray finish; carbon fiber exterior components including a front splitter, rear spoiler, and rear air diffuser; gloss black finish window surrounds, lower trunk lid finisher, upper and lower front grille, and side power vents.

Interior Features
The Touring trim level of the Jaguar XK features Bond grain leather interior trim, including on the instrument panel and door panels; sport-style 10-way power-adjustable front seats, with 3-stage variable heating; and Jaguar Premium 525-watt surround-sound audio system with AM/FM stereo and single-disc in-dash CD changer. The XK features a softer leather interior trim, including instrument panel and door panels, heated and cooled 16-way power-adjustable front seats, heated leather steering wheel with switches for audio and cruise control, and a Bowers & Wilkins 525-watt premium audio system with AM/FM stereo and 6-disc in-dash CD changer, Dolby Pro-Logic II 7.1 Surround Sound, and 14 speakers. The XKR-S adds performance seats, a leather headliner, and bright stainless steel pedals. The XK coupe offers 11.7 cubic feet of trunk space; the convertible has a 7.1-cubic-foot trunk.

Optional Features
Most of the features offered as standard equipment on the upper trim levels of the 2013 XK are available as packaged and individual options on the lower trim levels. Many elaborate packages are offered, among them the XKR Dynamic and Black Pack, which increases maximum speed to 174 mph and adds alloy wheels in gloss black finish, red brake calipers, a 10mm adjustment in ride height, unique spring and damper settings, and adds other styling touches to the XKR trim. A special chrome package, the XKR-S Bright Pack, is offered at the highest trim level, as is a heated front windshield and carbon fiber engine cover.

Under the Hood
The 2013 Jaguar XK's standard engine is a 5.0-liter, 385-horsepower V-8 that produces 380 lb.-ft. of torque. The XKR steps up to a supercharged version of that engine, rated at 510 horsepower and 461 lb.-ft. of torque. The Jaguar XKR-S boasts an even more powerful version of that same engine delivering 550 horsepower and 502 lb.-ft. of torque. The XKR also features active exhaust with quad tailpipes, an active differential, and the Jaguar high-performance braking system. The XKR-S can reach a top speed of 186 mph, according to Jaguar, and features a specially tuned active differential and adaptive dynamics, plus lower ride height and forged and fully machined front suspension components.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 Jaguar XK are:

  • XK Coupe: 16/24/19 mpg (city/highway/combined)
  • XK Convertible: 16/22/18 mpg
  • XKR (coupe or convertible): 15/22/17 mpg
  • XKR-S (coupe or convertible): 15/22/17 mpg

Safety
Standard safety features of note on the 2013 Jaguar XK include valet mode, anti-lock brakes, stability and traction control, front side-impact air bags, and side curtain air bags. Many other safety features are standard on upper trim levels, or optional on lower trims. A security alarm and engine immobilizer are standard.

The 2013 Jaguar XK has not yet been tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), or by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Technology
A special high-tech feature of the Jaguar XK is the rotary gear selector that rises up out of the center console, practically into the driver's hand, on ignition.
