Introduction
The 2013 Porsche Panamera is a sporty, luxurious, full-size 5-door hatchback (though Porsche markets it as a sedan) with seating for four. The Porsche Panamera made its debut in 2009, and a hybrid version was introduced in 2011. It's offered in 12 different configurations, including the Panamera , Panamera 4, 4S, 4S Executive, S E-Hybrid, GTS, Turbo, Turbo S, Turbo Executive, Platinum Edition, and Panamera 4 Platinum Edition, in rear-wheel drive (RWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD). A plug-in hybrid is to be introduced this year.

Exterior Features
The 2013 Porsche Panamera is available in black or white as the standard exterior colors, but nine metallic colors are available at a premium, and four "special" colors command an even higher price. In addition, custom colors can be provided. Standard equipment for the base Panamera includes 18-inch aluminum wheels, automatic bi-xenon headlights, LED running lights, and LED taillights. Every Panamera also offers rain-sensing wipers, water-repellent side window glass, power liftgate, and rear park-assist sensors. The Platinum trim levels add 19-inch turbo-style wheels and upgraded headlights. Also available are 20-inch wheels, adaptive headlights, and many different wheel designs.

Interior Features
Porsche encourages potential buyers to take advantage of the manufacturer's website and build a customized vehicle based on the maker's many individual options and packages. Standard equipment on the 2013 Porsche Panamera includes partial leather seats, heated 8-way power front comfort seats, individual rear bucket seats with folding center armrests, and a flow-through center console separating the left and right seats. Dual-zone automatic climate control is standard, as well as a configurable driver information display screen and a Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system including a 7-inch touch screen, Bluetooth connectivity, navigation, USB port, and auxiliary audio input jack. Other standard interior features include a chilled glovebox and an 11-speaker sound system. Upper trim levels add features such as upgraded leather upholstery, more power adjustments to the seating, heated front and rear seats, sport steering wheel with paddle shifters, adaptive suspension, a 14-speaker surround-sound system, full leather interior, microfiber suede headliner, and much more. The interior leather is available in a variety of colors, including two-tone combinations and special natural leather. Porsche also sells luggage designed specifically for the Panamera's cargo area, which measures 15.7 cubic feet except for Turbo and Turbo S models, which have 15.2 cubic feet of space, and the Panamera S Hybrid, which reduces cargo space to 11.8 cubic feet behind the seats. With rear seats folded, a standard Panamera offers 44.6 cubic feet of cargo space.

Optional Features
Many upgrades come at various trim levels; some are available on lower trim levels. Some of the other options include ventilated front and rear seats, premium brakes, rear windshield wiper, increased power adjustability to the rear seats, sport front seats with side bolsters, and other upholstery options. At the top of the line, the Premium Package Plus includes Power Steering Plus, front and rear heated seats, the Porsche Dynamic light system, reversing camera, 14-way power seats with memory, Porsche Entry & Drive, lane-change assist, 4-zone climate control, Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), and seat ventilation. The Sport Chrono Package Plus adds analog and digital stopwatches and adjustable engine and suspension settings. Many other packages are available, including several audio options. These packages affect virtually all aspects of the vehicle's design. For example, wheel accessories include wheel center caps with full-color Porsche crest, all-season tires for 20-inch alloy wheels, and rear-axle wheel spacers.

Under the Hood
Standard on the 2013 Porsche Panamera and Panamera Platinum Edition models is a 300-horsepower, 3.6-liter V-6 engine that delivers 295 lb.-ft. of torque. A proprietary automated manual transmission and an automatic start/stop system are standard. Add Porsche's active AWD system, and the car becomes a Panamera 4. The Panamera S and AWD Panamera 4S feature a direct-injection, 4.8-liter V-8 engine generating 400 horsepower and 369 lb.-ft. of torque. The Panamera GTS, which is available only with RWD, uses that same engine tuned to deliver 430 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. of torque. The Panamera S Hybrid features a supercharged V-6 engine, 8-speed automatic transmission, nickel-metal hydride battery pack, and an electric assist motor. These combine to generate 380 horsepower and 428 lb.-ft. of torque. The Panamera Turbo's engine is a twin-turbocharged, 4.8-liter V-8 that makes 500 horsepower and 516 lb.-ft. of torque. With the optional Sport Chrono package, the engine delivers 568 lb.-ft. of torque. AWD is standard on this trim level. The Panamera Turbo S also has a twin-turbocharged 4.8-liter V-8, modified to generate 550 horsepower and 553 lb.-ft. of torque. With the Sport Chrono package, the engine generates up to 590 lb.-ft. of torque. All Panameras feature a push-button Sport mode that disengages the automatic start/stop system and alters the car's throttle response and transmission shifts.

EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 Porsche Panamera are:

Safety
The 2013 Porsche Panamera features 8 air bags, including rear side-impact air bags and knee air bags for the front-seat occupants. Also standard are 4-wheel ventilated disc anti-lock brakes, traction and stability control, and rear park-assist sensors. Optional, or standard on some trim levels, are a reversing camera, adaptive headlights, and a Lane Change Assistant that operates like a blind-spot monitoring system.
