Introduction
The new 2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo is a performance-tuned version of the Hyundai Veloster, a 3-door sport coupe with a hatchback and a unique rear-seat entry door on the passenger's side of the car.

Exterior Features
Hyundai wants to make sure the new 2013 Veloster Turbo stands apart from the standard Veloster. To that end, the Veloster Turbo is equipped with unique front styling, LED front running lights, LED taillights, fog lights, and 18-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in P215/40R18 performance tires. Additionally, the Veloster Turbo gets a ground effects body kit, rear bumper diffuser panel punctuated by new dual central-exit exhaust outlets, and heated side mirrors with integrated turn signal indicators. Buyers will have the option of choosing a new Matte Gray paint finish, applied at the factory.

Interior Features
The 2013 Veloster Turbo is equipped with leather seats, heated front seats, keyless entry with push-button start, alloy pedal covers, and Supervision gauges. An exclusive Graphite Black interior with blue accents and graphics is available.

Bluetooth hands-free calling and music streaming is standard. A 7-inch in-dash display includes a Pandora Internet radio application compatible with an iPhone or Android device. A standard 450-watt Dimension premium sound system with 8 speakers includes satellite radio, USB/iPod connectivity, auxiliary audio input jack, and a Gracenotes database. The Veloster Turbo's occupants can even play video games on the center display screen thanks to RCA cable jacks and an available 115-volt power outlet. Of course, this feature only works when the car is not in gear.

Equipped with a hatchback design, the Veloster Turbo offers 15.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind its rear seats.

Optional Features
In addition to an automatic transmission, the 2013 Veloster Turbo can be equipped with a panoramic sunroof, navigation system with a reversing camera, reversing sensors, automatic headlights, and XM satellite radio and information service.

Under the Hood
The 2013 Veloster Turbo is equipped with a twin-scroll turbocharged and direct-injected, 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine making 201 horsepower at 6,000 rpm. Hyundai says this engine delivers a best-in-class weight-to-horsepower ratio of 14 pounds per pony. Additionally, the 2,800-pound Veloster Turbo's engine is cranking 195 lb.-ft. of torque between 1,750 and 4,500 rpm. All power figures assume the use of regular unleaded gas.

A 6-speed manual gearbox is standard. A 6-speed automatic is optional, featuring Sportronic manual shifting via the gate or paddles on the steering wheel. The Veloster Turbo also gets sport-tuned electric steering with a quicker ratio, sport suspension, and a freer flowing exhaust system.

Fuel Economy
Hyundai estimates that the new Veloster Turbo with manual transmission will get 27 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway, for a combined 31-mpg rating in mixed driving. Estimates for the optional automatic transmission are not available as this preview is published.

Safety
Hyundai installs six air bags, a traction and stability control system, and 4-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist on every 2013 Veloster Turbo. The car also comes standard with Hyundai's Blue Link telematics technology, and includes a free limited-time subscription to core safety services such as Automatic Crash Notification and Assistance, SOS Emergency Assistance, and Enhanced Roadside Assistance.

The Hyundai Veloster has not been crash-tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety as this preview is published.
