Introduction
The 2014 Kia Forte lineup is redesigned, and the latest member of the family debuted at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show. The new 2014 Forte 5-Door hatchback model adds functionality compared to the new 2014 Forte Sedan and is offered with a more powerful turbocharged engine option than the more traditional 4-door model. Kia expects the 2014 Forte 5-Door to arrive in dealer showrooms in the third quarter of 2013.

Exterior Features
Kia says the new 2014 Forte 5-Door exhibits a European appearance, and that the headlights sweep more dramatically into the front fenders than on the Kia Forte Sedan. The car was designed in Seoul, South Korea.

Two trim levels are offered for the new 2014 Kia Forte 5-Door: EX and SX. The EX model is equipped with 16-inch aluminum wheels, P205/55R16 tires, LED running lights, and fog lights.

Interior Features
The 2014 Kia Forte EX 5-Door is equipped with 5-passenger seating, soft-touch interior materials, large white-on-black gauges, chrome accents, and a leather-wrapped tilt/telescoping steering wheel. Additional standard equipment includes Bluetooth connectivity, reversing camera, and Kia UVO (Your Voice) infotainment system with a color touch screen and new eServices technology.

According to Kia, the new Forte 5-Door offers 23.2 cubic feet of cargo space, but the company does not confirm whether that measurement is for the space behind the rear seat or with the rear seat folded down.

Optional Features
The 2014 Kia Forte SX 5-Door is a sporty model equipped with a restyled front end, 18-inch aluminum wheels with dark-painted pockets and a machined surface finish, P225/40R18 tires, dual chrome exhaust outlets, and LED taillights. Inside, the new 2014 Forte SX 5-Door includes alloy sport pedals and trim designed to resemble carbon fiber.

Options for both versions of the new 2014 Forte 5-Door include HID headlights, power sunroof, auto-dimming rearview mirror, HD Radio, navigation system, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a keyless entry system with push-button ignition. Furthermore, the new Forte 5-Door can be upgraded with leather seats, 10-way power driver seat, heated front and rear seats, ventilated driver seat, and a heated steering wheel.

Under the Hood
A direct-injection, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine is standard for the Forte EX 5-Door model, rated to produce 173 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 154 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,700 rpm. A 6-speed automatic transmission is standard, delivering power to the vehicle's front wheels.

The Forte SX 5-Door is equipped with a turbocharged, direct-injection, 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine generating 201 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 195 lb.-ft. of torque between 1,750 rpm and 4,500 rpm. This engine is offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, and larger front brakes accompany the more powerful engine in the SX model.

Both the EX and the SX offer standard FlexSteer electric steering with driver-selected effort levels. A sport-tuned suspension is also standard equipment, employing MacPherson struts in front and a multi-link independent arrangement in back.

Technology
Every 2014 Kia Forte 5-Door is equipped with the automaker's UVO eServices system, a smartphone pairing technology with voice-controlled access to mobile applications as well as telematics services including 911 Connect. The 911 Connect system activates if the Forte's air bags deploy, putting a live operator in touch with the vehicle's occupants and helping to speed rescue personnel to the vehicle's exact location.
