Introduction
Lexus says that the current IS Sedan is the most popular model in the luxury market among young buyers. The redesigned 2014 Lexus IS intends to retain youthful buyers while simultaneously expanding the model's appeal in the fun-to-drive sedan segment. A 5-passenger entry-luxury sport sedan, the new 2014 Lexus IS delivers more space, more technology, and more performance than the model it replaces.

When the 2014 Lexus IS goes on sale in June of 2013, buyers will be able to select the IS 250 or the IS 350, equipped with a choice of rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

Exterior Features
"The IS has always been precise and fun to drive," said Mark Templin, Lexus Group Vice President and General Manager. "The all-new IS kicks it up a notch with true sport sedan driving dynamics, state-of-the-art onboard technologies, and an all-new design that makes it look fast even when it's standing still."

To improve the IS Sedan's ride and handling, engineers created a more rigid body structure, and then bolted on a body displaying the latest Lexus design philosophies. The new vehicle's wheelbase is 3 inches longer than the previous model, creating a "strong, horizontal beltline," according to Lexus, more rear-seat passenger room, and a larger trunk.

In addition to a Lexus spindle-style grille, the new IS features L-shaped LED running lights placed independently below the headlights.

Interior Features
The new 2014 Lexus IS Sedan's horizontally oriented design theme continues inside, where the automaker employs a new driver seat design with "greater comfort" and "better lateral support," the company says. Lexus says the driver seat hip point and steering column angle are lower than before, and that steering reach adjustment is improved.

Three additional inches of rear-seat leg room is standard for the redesigned 2014 Lexus IS, due to the model's longer wheelbase and thinner front seatbacks. Standard equipment includes a touch-controlled automatic climate system, analog clock, and Lexus Display Audio system with HD Radio and complimentary real-time traffic and weather.

Optional Features
The new 2014 Lexus IS is offered with an optional navigation system equipped with Lexus Enform smartphone connectivity and telematics service.

Lexus offers both the IS 250 and the IS 350 models in F Sport trim. These sportier models are identified by what Lexus calls a "bolder" spindle-style grille, brake cooling ducts, aerodynamic styling enhancements, and an 18-inch Y-spoke wheel design. Inside, the IS F Sport models are equipped with an LFA-inspired Thin Film Transistor (TFT) display meter cluster with a moving center ring, unique steering wheel and shift knob wrapped in perforated leather, black seat stitching, aluminum pedals and door sill trim, and 3-D-effect metal film cabin trim.

Under the Hood
Two versions of the new 2014 Lexus IS will be available when the model goes on sale. The IS 250 will have a 2.5-liter V-6 engine and a choice of rear- or all-wheel drive. The IS 350 is equipped with a direct- and port-injected 3.5-liter V-6 engine that Lexus claims will deliver more than 300 horsepower. Rear-wheel drive is standard for the IS 350, with all-wheel drive optional.

The IS 350 with rear-wheel drive is equipped with the same 8-speed Sport Direct Shift automatic transmission as the current IS F performance model, which offers quicker shifting, and throttle blipping between gear changes when the transmission is placed in manual mode.

Each version of the new IS offers Drive Mode Select technology with Eco, Normal and Sport settings. The IS 350 adds a Sport S+ setting. In Sport and Sport S+ modes, the transmission employs G-force Artificial Intelligence (G-AI), which takes vehicle g-force measurements into account when selecting gears and downshifting.

The IS Sedan is equipped with a double-wishbone front suspension, and its multi-link rear suspension is shared with the larger and more expensive GS Sedan. The steering is based on the same system employed for the Lexus GS, and Lexus says it improves accuracy, feel and feedback over the previous model.

Unique suspension and steering tuning is standard for the new 2014 Lexus IS F Sport models, with an Adaptive Variable Suspension and Variable Gear Ratio Steering offered as options.

Safety
Lexus confirms that the new 2014 IS will offer 10 standard air bags. Safety-related options include automatic high-beam headlights, lane-departure warning system, blind-spot monitoring system, and rear cross-traffic alert.

Technology
When the 2014 Lexus IS is equipped with the optional navigation system, Lexus Enform smartphone pairing and telematics service is included, allowing the driver to access mobile applications, unique services, and more via the in-dash touch screen.
