Recall Roundup: Ford Addresses Fuel Tank Issue, Nissan Adds Titan to Transmission Recall

4/1/2013
This week, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issues two new recalls, summarized below in alphabetical order by manufacturer.

2012 Ford Taurus
Ford is recalling a small number of 2012 Taurus vehicles that were built between July 19, 2011, and March 15, 2012. An improper fuel tank seam may leak, or weaken and fail in a crash, potentially causing a fire in the presence of an ignition source. Dealers will start inspecting and replacing fuel tanks on April 22, 2013, at no cost to the consumer.

This recall also involves small numbers of the 2013 Ford Explorer and the 2012 Lincoln MKS. Collectively, a total of 3,037 vehicles are heading back to dealerships for repairs. The NHTSA Campaign ID Number for this recall is 13V109000, and Ford's recall campaign number is 13S03. Vehicle owners with questions can call Ford at 1-866-436-7332.

2013 Nissan Titan
In certain 2013 Nissan Titan pickup trucks built between January 22, 2013, and February 20, 2013, the brake shift interlock for the steering column-mounted shift lever may not work properly, allowing the vehicle to be shifted out of park without pressing the brake pedal. This could, in turn, lead to vehicle rollaway and potentially cause a crash.

The Nissan Titan recall starts on April 8. The NHTSA recall Campaign ID Number is 13V094000. Owners can contact Nissan with questions by calling 1-800-647-7261.
