Hyundai HCD-14 Genesis Concept Sets Tone for Next-Gen Genesis
The HCD-14 Genesis Concept exhibits what Hyundai calls a "Fluidic Precision, Liquid Metal" design language, equipping the concept vehicle with a long hood, short rear deck, fast roofline, and a blunt prow with LED lighting and air intake styling elements that are repeated at the rear of the vehicle. The rear doors are rear-hinged, a feature that is highly unlikely to make the trip down an assembly line.
Inside, the HCD-14 Genesis Concept seats four people and features what Hyundai calls a "Design Wave" theme with digital and analog instrumentation. Hyundai displays a conceptual version of technology that attempts to eliminate driver distraction. The traditional center stack of controls is replaced by a head-up display used to operate climate and infotainment systems using eye-tracking and 3-D hand gesturing technologies. The goal is to keep the driver's eyes focused on the road ahead rather than looking down at controls.
Promising engaging driving dynamics, Hyundai installs a 5.0-liter V-8 engine under the rear-wheel-drive HCD-14 Genesis Concept's long hood. The engine generates 429 horsepower and 376 lb.-ft. of torque, and drives the rear wheels through an 8-speed automatic transmission equipped with paddle shifters on the steering wheel. Additional mechanical details include a multi-mode power steering system designed to feel like a traditional hydraulic steering system while providing the benefits of electric steering, multi-link front and rear suspension design, ceramic-lined exhaust system, and oversized wheels with low-profile tires.
