2014 Volkswagen Beetle Turbo R-Line Convertible Shown in Chi-Town

2/11/2013
Earlier this year, Volkswagen debuted the first of several new "performance-inspired" R-Line models designed to give VW buyers seeking a vehicle with a sporty look and feel something new to consider. Since the CC R-Line arrived, Volkswagen has extended the R-Line to the Beetle Coupe, Tiguan crossover SUV, and Touareg SUV--and now to the Beetle Convertible.

Introduced at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show, the new 2014 Beetle Turbo R-Line Convertible is based on the Beetle Turbo Convertible and is equipped with unique 19-inch aluminum wheels, lower profile tires, bi-xenon headlights with LED running lights, and an R-Line badge on the front of the vehicle.

The 2014 Beetle R-Line Convertible's interior includes metallic trim, stainless steel doorsill scuff plates, aluminum pedals, flat-bottom R-Line sport steering wheel, and leather sport seats. Additionally, the Beetle R-Line Convertible includes keyless access with push-button starting, premium sound system, and a navigation system.

A turbocharged, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine is standard, delivering 200 horsepower at 5,100 rpm and 207 lb.-ft. of torque at 1,700 rpm on premium unleaded fuel. A 6-speed manual gearbox is standard, with a 6-speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) serving as an option. To the driver, the DSG operates like an automatic transmission. The Beetle Turbo Convertible is also equipped with a sport suspension.

Volkswagen has not announced when the new 2014 Beetle R-Line Convertible will go on sale, or what its price tag will be. For comparison, the 2013 VW Beetle Turbo 60s Edition Convertible costs $33,190.
