2014 Buick Regal Adds Safety and Infotainment Technology
Changes to the interior are more noticeable. In addition to color selections and simulated wood trim finishes, the 2014 Regal is equipped with a reconfigurable instrument display and next-generation IntelliLink technology. The latest version of IntelliLink includes a high-resolution, 8-inch color touch screen that allows the user to swipe, pinch, spread, and drag content just like they might on a tablet computer or smartphone. The system also offers natural speech recognition to make hands-free operation easier than before.
Buick also upgrades the 2014 Regal's safety equipment with several new options. A rear cross-traffic alert system, side blind-zone alert system, and lane-departure warning system are available for the 2014 Regal, along with a Lane Change Alert system that can identify when traffic is approaching at a rapid rate of speed and advise against switching lanes. Additionally, the new Regal is available with a forward-collision alert system and collision-mitigation braking for the 2014 model year, and an adaptive cruise control system with full-speed-range operation is optional.
All 2014 Buick Regal models have a new electric steering system. The Regal's standard eAssist mild-hybrid powertrain carries over, pairing a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine with a 15 kW electric motor powered by a 115-volt Lithium-ion battery for a combined 182 horsepower. A 6-speed automatic transmission powers the standard Regal's front wheels.
The 2.0-liter turbocharged engine installed in the Regal Turbo model is, according to Buick, more powerful and more fuel-efficient than last year. It generates 259 horsepower at 5,300 rpm and 295 lb.-ft. of torque starting at 1,700 rpm, 39 more horsepower and 35 additional lb.-ft. of torque than last year, with torque peaking lower in the rev range. A 6-speed automatic transmission is standard for the Regal Turbo.
The performance-oriented 2014 Buick Regal GS is equipped with this same engine. Horsepower is reduced by 11 ponies compared with the 2013 model, but that 295 lb.-ft. of torque matches last year's rating, and comes on a full 800 rpm sooner, so the Regal GS ought to feel just as strong as it did in previous years. Regal GS buyers can choose between a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Models equipped with the turbocharged engine offer an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system equipped with a limited-slip differential as an option. The Regal AWD is equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission and the HiPer Strut front suspension from the Regal GS.
The 2014 Buick Regal arrives in dealerships in the fall of 2013.
