2014 Honda Civic Coupe Sharpens Skills and Styling

By: Jeff Youngs, 11/8/2013
At the 2013 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show, currently taking place in Las Vegas, NV, Honda unveiled the restyled and refined 2014 Civic Coupe. Last redesigned for the 2012 model year, the current version of the Civic Coupe has been on a steady program since its debut to add structural, safety, and interior improvements for 2013 and now styling and performance enhancements for 2014.

When the 2014 Honda Civic Coupe goes on sale, shoppers will notice a redesigned front end with bolder and more aggressive styling. Everything forward of the windshield has been revised for a new, sportier look. A new rear bumper and redesigned taillights freshen its appearance, and the Civic Coupe also receives new side mirrors and new wheel designs for 2014.

Changes are not limited to the exterior of the car. The performance-tuned Civic Si variant receives a modest power bump thanks to a revised exhaust system. Starting in 2014, the 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine delivers 205 horsepower and 174 lb.-ft. of torque. The Civic Si looks racier, too, thanks to a new front spoiler, rear air diffuser, and larger decklid spoiler. A new set of 18-inch aluminum wheels is also added to the Civic Si, replacing the former 17-inch wheels.

The 2014 Honda Civic Coupe goes head-to-head against a short list of competitors that includes the Hyundai Elantra Coupe, Kia Forte Koup, Scion tC, and the Volkswagen Beetle. Among them, only the Honda and the Scion have earned a "Top Safety Pick Plus" crash-test rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
