Volkswagen Recalls Beetle over Wet Leather Seats

Volkswagen is voluntarily recalling 2,471 units of the 2012 Beetle and 2013 Beetle models equipped with leather sport seats. If the front passenger seat gets wet, the Passenger Occupant Detection System may not detect when a child restraint is installed in that location, and the front passenger air bag might not be turned off, exposing a child to possible injury if the air bag deploys.

Volkswagen will replace the faulty sensor control module governing the Passenger Occupant Detection System free of charge. A repair schedule has not been established as this post is written, but concerned owners can contact Volkswagen directly at 1-800-822-8987 and reference National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Campaign ID number 12V540000.
