2014 Ford Fiesta ST Brings "Sport Technologies" Treatment to Subcompact Class
The new Fiesta ST is equipped with a turbocharged, 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine generating 197 horsepower and 214 lb.-ft. of torque, more than a standard-issue Mini Cooper S but not quite as much as a Volkswagen GTI. A 6-speed manual transmission is the only one Ford offers in the Fiesta ST, and it feeds power to the car's front wheels through a new torque vectoring control system. Ford claims the Fiesta ST is projected to get 34 mpg on the highway.
Additional hardware upgrades designed to give the Fiesta ST greater performance capabilities are an upgraded braking system, faster steering, and a sport suspension that's been lowered by 15 mm. The Fiesta ST rides on a set of unique 17-inch aluminum wheels with stickier tires.
In addition to the upgraded wheels and tires, styling modifications ensure that the Fiesta ST stands apart from other Fiesta models. The front and rear of the car are different, featuring a black mesh grille like the one on the Focus ST, side skirts, and a rear diffuser panel. Dual exhaust outlets are included, along with a high-mount rear spoiler. Ford offers a paint color called Molten Orange exclusively for the ST model.
Inside, the Fiesta ST gets front sport seats with available color-contrast inserts. Metallic trim is applied to the dashboard, pedals and shifter. Standard equipment includes Sync with 9-1-1 Assist service and MyKey technology, which allows the Fiesta ST's owner to program specific vehicle traits and characteristics in a bid to discourage unsafe driving practices. Options include a MyFord Touch infotainment system and a new Sony premium sound system with HD Radio.
