2013 Toyota RAV4 Earns "Top Safety Pick" Rating

5/2/2013
According to new crash tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the redesigned 2013 Toyota RAV4 is a "Top Safety Pick" in the compact crossover SUV class. A "Top Safety Pick" designation is given only to those vehicles that receive the top crash-test rating of "Good" in the moderate overlap frontal impact test, the side-impact test, roof crush strength test, and the rear-impact injury prevention test.

The IIHS did not perform its new small overlap frontal impact test when evaluating the 2013 RAV4. This new test measures protection levels in the event that a vehicle collides with a tree, pole, or oncoming motorist on the left front corner of the vehicle. An "Acceptable" or a "Good" rating for this evaluation results in a "Top Safety Pick Plus" designation for the 2013 model year.

The 2013 Toyota RAV4 is sold in LE, XLE, and Limited trim levels. This year, Toyota has added a knee air bag for the driver and a secondary side-impact air bag that deploys from the front passenger's seat cushion. A reversing camera is standard this year, and the RAV4 Limited can be optioned with a blind-spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert.
