Dodge Gives Durango, Journey and Grand Caravan the Blacktop Treatment

1/14/2013
Last year, Dodge began selling a Blacktop option package for the Charger, which added a blacked-out exterior appearance, black 20-inch aluminum wheels, rear spoiler, premium audio system, slight power bump for the V-6 engine, Sport mode for the transmission, paddle shifters, and a revised rear axle ratio. About one in four Charger buyers selected this version of the model.

For 2013, the Blacktop treatment's availability expanded to include the Dodge Charger R/T, the Dodge Challenger R/T, and the Dodge Avenger SXT. Now, in conjunction with the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Dodge rolls out new Blacktop editions of the Durango SUV, Journey SUV, and Grand Caravan minivan.

The 2013 Dodge Durango Blacktop Edition models are based on the Durango SXT or R/T, and include 20-inch gloss black aluminum wheels and a black grille treatment for an extra $295. Buyers can opt for an extra-cost premium "digital suede" interior with red accent stitching, 12-way power driver's seat, and Black Comodo Elm trim for an additional $595. Color choices include Bright White, Brilliant Black, Granite Crystal, Billet Silver, and Redline Red.

The 2013 Dodge Journey Blacktop Edition adds 19-inch gloss black aluminum wheels, black grille, black side mirror housings, darkened headlamp bezels, and an 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment screen for the dashboard. Leather seats with gray contrast stitching are optional, as well as heated front seats and a heated steering wheel. The $995 package is offered for the Journey SXT with front- or all-wheel drive, and with a 4-cylinder or V-6 engine. Paint colors include Bright Silver, Bright Red, Brilliant Black, Brilliant Red Tri-Coat, White, Pearl White Tri-Coat, and Storm Grey.

The 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan Blacktop Edition includes polished 17-inch aluminum wheels with black painted pockets, black grille, darker headlights, fog lights, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and a black interior with silver accent stitching. The $595 package is offered for the Grand Caravan SXT, with a choice between Billet Silver, Brilliant Black, Maximum Steel, Redline, and Stone White exterior colors.

Dodge says the Durango Blacktop will arrive at dealers during the first quarter of 2013, while the Journey and Grand Caravan Blacktop models will arrive in the second quarter of 2013.
