Redesigned 2013 Lexus ES Earns "Top Safety Pick" Rating

10/8/2012
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has completed a new round of crash tests, and the redesigned 2013 Lexus ES is one of four models earning a "Top Safety Pick" rating. To become a "Top Safety Pick," a model must receive the Institute's top rating of "Good" in four different crash-test assessments: moderate overlap frontal-impact, side-impact, roof crush strength, and rear-impact injury prevention.

The new 2013 Lexus ES is available as ES 350 and ES 300h models, and shares a platform with the upcoming 2013 Toyota Avalon. The ES 350 is equipped with a 3.5-liter V-6 engine, while the ES 300h is a hybrid model estimated to get 40 mpg in combined driving. A hallmark of the new design is a significant gain in rear-seat leg room over the previous model.

In addition to being a "Top Safety Pick," the new 2013 Lexus ES is offered with a number of safety features, including 10 standard air bags and a free 1-year subscription to Safety Connect telematics service with Automatic Collision Notification. Optional features include lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, Pre-Collision System, and more.
