2013 Chevrolet Cruze Debuts Flexible Venting Driver Air Bag

The 2013 Chevy Cruze swaps its former dual-stage driver air bag design for a new single-stage "smart" air bag with what the company calls flexible venting technology. The new, lighter, more compact design is effective in protecting drivers of varying sizes, and GM says it "reduces the risk of inflation-induced injury by allowing the driver's forward momentum to effectively push the air out and away."

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gives the 2013 Chevrolet Cruze the same 5-star overall rating (out of 5 stars) as the 2011 and 2012 models, and the 2013 Cruze is also named a "Top Safety Pick" by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
