2014 Kia Forte Offers Uncommon Features for Small Car Class

11/29/2012
Designed in California but, according to Kia, "European design-inspired," the new 2014 Forte sedan replaces the current Forte lineup of coupe, hatchback and sedan when it goes on sale during the first quarter of 2013. Longer, lower, and wider than before, the new Kia Forte is equipped with LED running lights and an interior offering soft touch points, according to Kia.

Two versions of the redesigned 2014 Kia Forte will be available. Standard equipment for the new 2014 Forte LX sedan includes air conditioning, power windows, power door locks, power heated side mirrors, Bluetooth connectivity, and satellite radio. The base Forte LX rides on 15-inch steel wheels, while models equipped with the optional Popular package receive 16-inch aluminum wheels. The Popular package also includes keyless entry, remote trunk release, cruise control, and a sliding front center armrest. An Eco package is also offered for the LX trim level, adding Kia's Idle Stop & Go (ISG) engine shut-off technology and a dual-zone automatic climate control system with rear air vents.

The 2014 Forte EX includes the LX model's Popular package contents, and adds a UVO infotainment system with eServices technology, reversing camera, and an air-conditioned glove box. This model is offered with an optional Flex Steer system with Comfort, Normal and Sport driving modes. A Premium package is also optional for the EX trim, including heated front and rear seats, heated steering wheel, 10-way power driver's seat with ventilation, leather upholstery, power sunroof, SmartKey passive entry system, and 17-inch aluminum wheels. The EX can also be upgraded with a Technology package adding high-intensity discharge headlights, LED taillights, 4.2-inch LCD information screen in the gauge cluster, and dual-zone automatic climate control with rear air vents.

A 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine is installed in the Forte LX model, generating 148 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 131 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,700 rpm. A 6-speed manual gearbox is standard for the LX, with a 6-speed automatic transmission optional. When the Eco package is installed, this engine offers Kia's ISG technology, which shuts the engine off while idling at intersections or in traffic to help conserve fuel.

The new Kia Forte EX has a direct-injection, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that delivers 173 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 154 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,700 rpm. A 6-speed automatic transmission is the only offering. Both of the new Forte models are equipped with electric steering and a MacPherson strut front and torsion beam rear suspension.

In a statement, Michael Sprague, executive vice president of marketing and communications, Kia Motors America, said: "The all-new Forte significantly raises the bar, offering upscale amenities and eye-catching appeal. When you combine exclusive available features like a ventilated driver's seat and UVO eServices in a car with such an attractive design, it's very clear the all-new Forte sets a new standard for the compact segment."
