Kia Reveals 2014 Forte 5-Door at Chicago Auto Show

2/14/2013
Kia is redesigning its family of Forte models, having introduced the 4-door sedan model at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show and now revealing the 5-door hatchback at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show. Will a new 2014 Kia Forte Koup debut in New York? That remains to be seen.

The new 2014 Kia Forte 5-Door reflects the design themes introduced with the 2014 Kia Forte Sedan applied to a more practical package offering greater cargo capacity and, when equipped with the optional turbocharged engine, greater performance.

The 2014 Kia Forte 5-Door goes on sale in the third quarter of 2013, offered in EX and SX trim levels. The EX trim is equipped with FlexSteer electric steering, sport-tuned suspension, LED running lights, fog lights, and 16-inch aluminum wheels. Inside, the EX features Bluetooth connectivity, Kia UVO (Your Voice) infotainment system with a color touch screen and eServices telematics technology, and a leather-wrapped tilt/telescoping steering wheel.

A reversing camera is standard equipment, and UVO includes a limited subscription to eServices, which offers 911 Connect service in the event of an air bag deployment. If the air bags deploy and 911 Connect service is active, a live operator gets in touch with the Kia's occupants to try to determine if there are any injuries and can send rescue personnel to the vehicle's exact location to speed assistance to the injured.

A 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with direct fuel injection is standard for the 2014 Kia Forte EX 5-Door, delivering 173 horsepower and 154 lb.-ft. of torque and paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The 2014 Kia Forte SX 5-Door is equipped with a more powerful turbocharged, 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine rated to produce 201 horsepower and 195 lb.-ft. of torque. Like other turbocharged engines, the peak torque is spread across a wide rev range, in the Forte's case from 1,750 rpm to 4,500 rpm. A 6-speed manual gearbox is standard for the turbocharged 2014 Kia Forte SX 5-Door, with a 6-speed automatic offering paddle shifters optional.

The 2014 Kia Forte SX 5-Door is equipped with more than just a powerful engine. It is set apart from the EX trim by revised front styling, dual chrome exhaust outlets, LED taillights, and a set of 18-inch aluminum wheels equipped with P225/40R18 tires.

Both versions of this new Forte are offered with leather upholstery, heated front and rear seats, heated steering wheel, 10-way power driver seat, and a ventilated driver seat. Dual-zone automatic climate control, navigation system, power sunroof, and keyless entry with push-button starting are also available on the new 2014 Kia Forte 5-Door.
