2013 Lincoln MKZ Receives "Top Safety Pick Plus" Crash-Test Rating

3/15/2013
In the latest round of crash tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the 2013 Lincoln MKZ achieved "Top Safety Pick Plus" status thanks in part to an "Acceptable" rating in the Institute's new small overlap frontal-impact crashworthiness assessment. To achieve Top Safety Pick Plus status, a vehicle must receive "Good" ratings in at least four of five tests the Institute conducts and no less than "Acceptable" in the fifth test. Lincoln has redesigned the midsize MKZ luxury sedan for 2013.

Buyers of the new MKZ choose between a V-6 engine and a gas-electric hybrid powertrain. Four versions of the 2013 MKZ are on sale: base, Select, Reserve, and Preferred. Upgrading to the Select option package adds a reversing camera and rear parking-assist sensors. Stepping up to the Reserve option package installs a blind-spot information system and a rear cross-traffic alert system. A Technology package is optional, adding a lane-departure warning and lane-keeping-assist system, adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning and brake support systems, automatic high-beam headlights, among others.

In addition to being named a Top Safety Pick Plus, the 2013 Lincoln MKZ receives 5 stars (out of 5 stars) in crash testing conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
