Mercedes-Benz Recalls the 2012 CLS550

Mercedes-Benz is asking 23 owners of the 2012 CLS550 and CLS550 4Matic, built between December 1, 2011 and December 13, 2011, to return their vehicles to the dealership to have the bolts that hold the hood's secondary latch striker tightened.

If two of the four bolts securing the striker loosen, the secondary hood latch function would fail in the event that the primary hood latch were to break or if the hood was not completely closed, allowing the car's hood to open while the vehicle is in motion, which could reduce visibility and lead to an increased risk of a crash.

The 23 affected vehicles will head back to dealership in December of 2012. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) campaign ID number for this recall is 12V533000 and owners with questions can contact Mercedes-Benz at 1-800-367-6372.
