2013 Ford Fusion Wins Green Car of the Year Award
The 2013 Fusion advanced to the podium from a field that included the Dodge Dart Aero, Ford C-Max, Mazda CX-5, and Toyota Prius c. In addition to citing the Fusion's "stunning design" and Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, Green Car Journal explained that the variety of models and powertrains offered for Ford's new family car was a determining factor in giving the Fusion the award.
According to Green Car Journal, Ford "leads the way" with the Fusion, which offers a variety of clean and efficient powertrain choices, advanced technology, desirability, and accessibility in terms of price.
Ron Cogan, editor and publisher of the Green Car Journal and CarsOfChange.com, and president of the nonprofit Green Car Institute, said, "There's no overstating the importance of what Ford has done. Many have long envisioned new car showrooms where a desired model could be purchased with one of many distinctly different and efficient powertrains, selected to satisfy a buyer's particular needs and desires."
To be eligible for the Green Car of the Year award, a model must be on sale by Jan. 1 of the model year, and all nominees must advance environmentally responsible performance in "meaningful and quantifiable" ways.
