Chevrolet Wins North American Car, Truck of the Year Awards

By: Jeff Youngs, 1/16/2014
At the 2014 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, a jury of 49 automotive journalists from the United States and Canada named the redesigned Chevrolet Corvette Stingray as the North American Car of the Year and the all-new Chevrolet Silverado as the North American Truck of the Year.

"The Corvette and Silverado truly embody the passion, commitment and focus that is driving us to deliver the most expressive designs, innovative technologies and engaging performance in every vehicle that wears the bowtie," said Alan Batey, General Motors senior vice president, Global Chevrolet. "It is a distinct honor for the entire Chevrolet team to have both the Corvette and Silverado recognized with the prestigious North American Car and Truck of the Year awards."

The jurors evaluated a large field of new and significantly improved 2014 model-year vehicles in order to determine which car and which truck would win the awards, judging them based on innovation, comfort, design, safety, handling, driver satisfaction, and value for the dollar. In this year's voting, the Corvette beat the runner-up Mazda 3 by 26 points to earn the Car of the Year award, while the Silverado eclipsed the runner-up Jeep Cherokee by 45 points to receive the Truck of the Year award. Among the finalists in each category, third-place went to the Cadillac CTS and the Acura MDX.
