Honda to Unveil Next-Generation Fuel-Cell Concept Car

Honda began leasing its first fuel-cell EV to fleet customers in 2002, and put its Honda FCX Clarity fuel-cell vehicles into the hands of retail consumers in 2005. Today, about two dozen retail customers in Southern California are driving leased FCX Clarity models, which the automaker says has given the company the experience necessary to advance the future powertrain technology.
Meanwhile, last week, Toyota revealed drawings of its entry FCV (fuel cell vehicle)--a fuel-cell-powered car that it is likely to sell rather than lease, according to media reports.
Collaboration is key to future fuel cell development. Toyota is working on fuel-cell vehicle research with German automaker BMW. Similarly, Honda and General Motors signed a pact this year to work on long-term fuel-cell technology, while Daimler, Ford and Renault-Nissan also have their own fuel-cell development plans.
