2014 Chevy Silverado High Country Adds Luxe to Workhorse Pickup

5/6/2013
Chevrolet has unveiled the new 2014 Silverado High Country model, a luxurious version of its redesigned Silverado Crew Cab that serves as the flagship version of its new full-size pickup truck, which goes on sale this fall. The new Silverado High Country is equipped with numerous standard features, and is offered with few options.

"High Country will be the top model in the Silverado lineup, with a higher level of premium features and materials with a rich, Western themed appearance," said Maria Rohrer, Silverado marketing director.

To distinguish itself from the Silverado LTZ, the new 2014 Silverado High Country is equipped with a unique grille featuring horizontal chrome bars, projector-beam headlights, body-color bumpers with front and rear park-assist sensors, and chrome-dipped mirror caps, door handles, and side moldings. The Silverado High Country also gets a set of chrome 20-inch aluminum wheels that are not shared with any other 2014 Silverado models. Inside, the Silverado High Country is equipped with Saddle Brown premium perforated leather, heated and ventilated front seats, Chevrolet MyLink infotainment technology with an 8-inch color touch screen, and a Bose premium audio system.

A new 355-horsepower, 5.3-liter V-8 engine is standard, equipped with direct fuel injection and Active Fuel Management cylinder-deactivation technology designed to operate the engine on just 4 of its 8 cylinders under light-load driving conditions in order to conserve fuel. Chevrolet says this engine returns up to 23 mpg on the highway, in trucks with 2-wheel drive.

Four-wheel drive and a new 6.2-liter V-8 engine are optional for the Silverado High Country. Horsepower and torque figures have not been finalized for the bigger V-8 engine, but it is also equipped with direct fuel injection and Active Fuel Management. Additional upgrades include a chrome rear bumper, integrated trailer brake controller, power sunroof, navigation system, and a rear-seat entertainment system. Chevy also offers a High Country Premium package for this model, adding a heated steering wheel, adjustable pedals, integrated trailer brake controller, and Driver Alert technologies including lane-departure warning, forward-collision alert, and a Safety Alert Driver Seat that vibrates when either system detects a need for driver attention.

Prices for the Silverado High Country have not been established as this article is written.
