Chevy Spark Electric Vehicle Prices, Lease Deal Announced

5/23/2013
When the 2014 Chevrolet Spark EV goes on sale, it will be priced from $27,495, including a destination freight charge of $810. Maximize the full federal tax credit, which ranges up to $7,500, and the Spark EV's price drops below the $20,000 mark. Additional state and local tax credits and incentives exist in California, reducing the price to as low as $17,495. People interested in leasing the new 2014 Chevy Spark EV will pay as little as $199 per month for 36 months after making an initial payment of $999.

"The Chevrolet Spark EV is the most efficient--and now one of the most affordable--EVs you can buy," said Chris Perry, vice president, Chevrolet Marketing. "Combined with outstanding infotainment and great design, the fun-to-drive Spark EV is engineered to impress."

The Chevy Spark EV, which qualifies for carpool lane access in California, is equipped with an electric motor and a 21-kWh Lithium-ion battery pack. The driver selects between Normal and Sport driving modes, and the electric motor delivers 400 lb.-ft. of torque the moment the driver steps on the accelerator. Chevrolet claims a Spark EV acceleration time of 7.6 seconds to 60 mph for the 2,989-pound car. Top speed is 90 mph, according to Chevy.

Drive the car in Normal mode, and maximum range is 82 miles, according to the EPA, which gives the Spark EV a fuel-economy equivalent rating of 119 MPGe. Chevrolet says: "A Spark EV can save drivers, on average, about $150 per month in fuel costs based on EPA assessments." That equates to $9,000 over five years.

To recharge the Spark EV, owners can use the standard 120-volt charge cord, which is compatible with regular household electrical outlets. Using the standard charging cord, it takes "about 20 hours," according to Chevrolet, to fully recharge the Spark EV. Upgrade to a 240-volt cord and outlet, and the car can be completely rejuvenated in 7 hours, the automaker says.

The Spark EV will also be compatible with DC Fast Charge stations, and is designed to handle several of these recharges on a daily basis. Using a DC Fast Charge station, the Spark EV will achieve an 80% recharge in just 20 minutes.

Chevrolet MyLink technology is standard on the Spark EV, and includes a 7-inch color touch-screen infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity. Owners can manage vehicle charging remotely using a smartphone application that is free for the first three years of ownership. Using MyLink and a paired smartphone, the driver can use applications including Siri Eyes Free, Pandora Internet radio, BringGo navigation, and a Spark EV RemoteLink app with a Waypoint tab. Using Waypoint, a driver can determine whether they can reach a destination on a single charge, and can find charging stations that are located along the planned route.

The new 2014 Spark EV is also equipped with a free 3-year subscription to OnStar telematics with Automatic Crash Notification, which activates in the event of an air bag deployment and dispatches emergency rescue personnel to the car's exact location.

Designed to seat four people, the Spark EV offers 9.6 cu. ft. of trunk space. Fold the rear seat down, and the car accommodates 23.4 cu. ft. of cargo. Leatherette seats are optional. The Spark EV arrives in California and Oregon Chevrolet dealerships in June of 2013.
