2014 Volkswagen Passat Sport Enlivens the Daily Drive

Equipped with the new turbocharged, 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine that debuted in other 2014 Passat models, the Passat Sport is offered with a choice between a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed automatic transmission, each sending 170 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque to the car's front wheels. That might not look all that impressive on paper, especially for a car weighing about 3,200 lbs., but the key is to remember that maximum torque is available from 1,500 rpm all the way to 4,750 rpm. That, according to Volkswagen, helps make the Passat feel more powerful than the numbers might otherwise suggest.
Additionally, this version of VW's family car is equipped with fog lights, a rear spoiler, and 19-inch aluminum wheels. Three shades of paint are available: Candy White, Tungsten Silver, and a color that is exclusive to the Passat Sport called Urano Gray. The white and silver cars have a black roof and black side mirror caps.
Inside, sport comfort front seats, simulated carbon fiber trim, aluminum pedals, stainless steel sill covers, and unique floor mats are standard for the Passat Sport. With the optional automatic transmission, paddle shifters are also included. Otherwise, this model comes standard with the same equipment as the Passat SE, such as heated front seats, Car-Net telematics, a premium touch-screen audio system, reversing camera, and more.
Volkswagen says the 2014 Passat Sport will cost $27,295 with the standard manual gearbox, including the $820 destination charge. An automatic transmission adds $1,200 to the price. Expect the car to arrive in dealer showrooms in early 2014.
