2014 Dodge Journey SE Adds AWD and V-6 Power

By: Jeff Youngs, 3/13/2014
Dodge has announced that it is easier for price-conscious customers to purchase an all-wheel-drive (AWD) version of its midsize crossover SUV, the 2014 Journey. At $25,890, including a destination charge of $995, the new Journey SE AWD model costs $1,800 less than the Journey SXT AWD.

Underscoring the reason for adding the new model, Tim Kuniskis, president and CEO Dodge Brand, said, "The Dodge Journey set an all-time sales record in the United States in 2013. We want to build on that sales momentum, offering levels of performance our competitors can't touch at this price point."

Kuniskis refers to the Journey SE AWD model's 3.6-liter V-6 engine, the only power plant available in conjunction with AWD. The engine is rated to make 283 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque, while returning an EPA-rated 19 mpg in combined driving. A 6-speed automatic transmission is standard with the V-6.

The Journey's AWD system powers the front wheels under normal driving conditions, transferring engine power to the rear wheels when the front wheels slip. Dodge also says that the AWD system is engaged when the Journey is traveling at speeds between 25 mph and 65 mph to aid handling, helping to make the SUV feel more athletic.

Standard equipment for the new Journey SE AWD model includes Keyless Go passive entry with push-button starting, a 4.3-inch Uconnect touch-screen infotainment system, dark-tinted privacy glass for the rear windows, power windows and door locks, power heated side mirrors, cruise control, and a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel. When properly equipped, the Journey seats 7 passengers in 3 rows of seats and features a fold-flat front passenger's seat with a hidden storage compartment located under the seat cushion.

According to Dodge, the Journey SE AWD is arriving in dealerships by the end of March 2014.
