Official 2014 Corvette Horsepower and Torque Ratings Revealed
The official horsepower and torque numbers for the 2014 Corvette Stingray are 455 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 460 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,600 rpm in standard format. Add the optional performance exhaust system, and the 2014 Corvette Stingray generates 460 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. of torque. Furthermore, 90% of that peak torque is available between 3,000 and 5,500 rpm, according to Chevrolet.
Chevrolet says these figures represent the highest standard power ratings for any Corvette in history, and notes that at 74 horsepower per liter, the new LT1 engine supplies greater power density than the LS7 7.0-liter V-8 installed in the outgoing Corvette Z06. By Chevrolet's stopwatch, the new 2014 Corvette Stingray 0-to-60 mph acceleration time is under 4 seconds.
"The 2014 Corvette Stingray's LT1 engine is a triumph of advanced technology, delivering more power and torque than ever before with greater efficiency," said Jordan Lee, Small Block chief engineer.
Chevrolet says the new Corvette Stingray will get an estimated 26 mpg on the highway, thanks to direct fuel injection and Active Fuel Management cylinder-deactivation technologies. The new engine also burns 25% cleaner than before, Chevy claims, thereby reducing emissions.
Rest assured that speed remains the 6.2-liter V-8's primary objective. Said Lee: "Drivers will experience more power and acceleration than ever before with the standard engine--in fact, its power and torque surpass many uplevel engines offered by competitors."
